RX8's battery died.

Well I was detailing the RX8 yesterday for the whole day. I forgot I left the keys in the accessories position. When I got into the car, I pressed the brakes and the needles on the gauges swept and swept back into place. I said to myself "Wow, never knew the RX8 had that feature like Subaru's". I did it a few more times because I was so amused, til it swept past the 10krpm mark! The gauges just went psycho.

Well anyways, the radio wouldn't work and of course it didn't start. The gauges didn't even light up. The interior and exterior lights were also very dim and the horn sounded like a mouse. I hope it's only the batteries.

I plan on jump starting it with the Infiniti SUV. What procedures should i take so I can avoid flooding it and make sure the battery is recharged to the point where I can start it again next time knowing that it will start up right away? The car does not have plates yet (only insurance, still have to deal with an arrival of a lien release letter).

Your best bet would be to put the battery on a charger but if that's not an option let it run for an hour or so after you jump it.

nothing to it - i did the same thing this summer and kicked myself for being so dumb. jumped it with my wife's car, drove it around for a while (took it for a little half hour cruise) to make sure it was warmed up and parked it back in the garage. no harm no foul.

no harm. Just dead battery

but dont expect your battery to last long after you jump it back to life tho.

Time for you to buy a new battery

attach the jumper cables
start the Infiniti
let sit for a few minutes
have somebody rev the infiniti while you start the car

And your basis for this claim is what?

I ran my battery dead with the trunk light a year ago (took at most a week). Jumped started it off the wife's Santa Fe and drove a 130 miles. Same battery in-use today.

It jumped started. Started the Infiniti, attached positive to positive, one negative to infiniti's battery and the other to a ground in the RX8, had someone rev the Infiniti for me as I started the RX8. Took a few seconds to start but it finally started. It's been running in the driveway for 15 minutes now, going to let it run for 45 or so.

For some reason the DSC and TCS is turned off when I started it. Hopefully it'll be on the next time i start it.

Battery is charged but the DSC and TSC light is still on after I turned it off, took the keys out and on again.

They should go off after a few "startups".

You have to reset the DSC/TSC...turn the wheel all the way right, then all the way left. Then restart the car.

I tried the 20x break pumping method and removing the battery (for 5 minutes because I have to leave for work NOW). I cleaned the terminals and started it up. First start up it refused to idle and shut off, second i gave it a little throttle and then it idle'd ok.

I will try those methods tomorrow (will be taking another car to work). I hope the damn flashing DSC and tsc turns off.

Not quite the proper sequence. If you're going to have the donor car running during the jump, it should be running before you hook up the cables.

Don't rev the donor car during the jump. The alternator is not going to put out enough current to run the dead car's starter. It's the battery that will provide the power.

Sometimes the dead battery can be really down, and sop up too much juice for the jump to work. In that case "let it sit" is needed.

An amusing variation on jump starting is if you don't have jumper cables but have a spool of modest gauge wire. You make the jump connections with that, but rather than try to do a real jump you let the donor car run for 10 minutes or so to put a charge on the dead battery. Then the dead car isn't so dead any more.

FWIW, my first car was an Alfa Romeo with Lucas electrical components. And I lived in upstate NY. I learned more about jump starting than anyone would ever want to know.

Well anyways, the jump went fine. I just have to deal with the DSC and TCS light now since it won't go off.

You forgot one little item! Turn the key to the ACC position, do not start the car, then do the wheel turn as you described, then turn the car off and restart!

Oh......and the OP should read his freaking manual or go get one!
Also needs to read responses to his questions before he fires off more!

yes because the alarm was on when the battery died. It will go off until it times out the first time, If you want, open the hood and pull the horn relay in the box all the way to the right. Then you'll just have flashers for 5 minutes or so until the system resets and then you can disarm it with a remote.
