RX8s and rotaries in Puerto Rico
I was talking to a guy from Puerto Rico who said that Mazda were very popular in Puerto Rico. He said the rotary engines in particular are popular because they are easy to maintain and last a long time. He said that you see lots of RX-7 and RX-3s still running and there are lots of specialty shops that specialize in rotary tuning.
Can anyone from Puerto Rico confirm this?
Are they selling lots of RX8 in Puerto Rico?

Yes they are selling pretty well and they last longer out there because the island is so small it’s about 120 to 130 miles wide.
Also they still have allot of datsuns out there
They really love the rotary’s in Puerto rico my uncle owns quite a few of them

I'm from Puerto Rico and you do have a lot of Mazda Owners down there. But about Rotary Engines, I'm not too sure about that. Though I live in Maryland now, I was just in Puerto Rico in May of 2004. I think I saw maybe 2 RX8's while I was there and no RX7's.

Well myself being puerto rican I grew up around rotaries hence the attraction to the 8. Between my father and I we've gone through about 10 7's. Heck my father's first was an RX-2. Everytime I go to visit family there I consistently see at least 2 or 3 RX7's on a daily basis. I guess it depends on where you are on the island but go to the right place and you'll see them. They're about as common there as civics are here :D

Yes it's true... some of the fastest rotaries in the world (drag racing) were built in PR. My first car was an 84 RX-7, second car an 86 RX-7...
There are many tuner shops also, you just need to talk to the right people and you'll get connected

All I know about Puerto Rico is they have the FINEST women I've ever seen in my life and in mass quantities
I took a cruise in the Carribean and it was 60% Puerto Rican...for 7 days my jaw was to the floor seeing these women.
If they can produce women like that they know what they are doing...thus their fondness for Rotaries is a good thing.

yeah, you're off the topic, but if you got 5 out of 5, then... you must be part of the crowd. I bet if I ask all five of them about you, they will come up with the same answer ;D

I heard the police in Puerto Rico close down the airstrips and allow drag racing to keep street racers off the street.
That's pretty damn cool if it is true.

I'm from there and never heard that...
There's this one place that used to be a small airstrip and it's privately owned, there are drag racing events there and the police knows but don't interfere because it's private land and the owner allows it.
There are also street racer days on the many racetracks on the Island, pay a small fee, sign a "you're not responsible if I die" waiver and you're good to go

New Jersey-born Puerto Rican here.......I guess growing up around other Puerto Ricans, rotaries are a part of it. The RX8 is just the latest in a long line of rotary powered cars I've owned.
