Sad news

Well...I waited and waited and waited for an Rx8 and then waited some more. Then finally, I placed my order in June 06 and was told to expect delivery of an 07 in sept. Went last week only to find that my car hadn't been built yet and will now be delivered in Jan. Very furious (with insults to the dealer) and in desperate need of a car (since my old one broke down for the last time) I hopped over to check out a VW GTI and really liked it. I also liked the fact that the had one for pick immediately. So by the evening I was the owner of a Red GTI and am loving the new car. While unfortunate that I could not get an RX8, I really liked this forum and will keep reading the posts.

Take care,

Where there specific things that you wanted and couldn't find that made you order one? I don't know that it is the dealerships fault, though, that Mazda didn't build it yet and it pushed back your delivery date. Mine was two months later than I was promised. The dealer didn't give me a firm date but MNAO did since I contacted them about it first. When mine got "locked" meaning the specs couldn't be changed anymore, they then had an expected arrival date. Except, due to backorder on some stuff that was to be installed it took two to three weeks more than originally anticipated.

Why would it take until January if you ordered it in June? I finalized my order in November and had to wait for them to actually start production, which got pushed back several times. It was built February 1 and I picked it up March 26. Otherwise, it was supposed to have been released the week of March 6.

Cool. Did they give you a "Fast" with it? If so, make sure you keep it under control.

The new GTI intrigues me and might just be my next car. What are your driving impressions so far? Speed/quickness? Handling? Ride? Quietness? Comfort?

The thing that worries me about VWs is their spotty reliability record. (I know, I know, people have had issues with the early RX-8s too, but my '05 has been perfect so far).

Is there something wrong with an 06? Just get one of those, and have them knock some money off for lying to you, and wasting your time.

Much easier to add power to the GTi from what I've heard. Have fun.

You can always get an RX8 when you're GTi starts to get old (I hope).

You made a good choice, hope you got the DSG though. I test drove a manual one and the gearbox is pure trash.

Probably not so much sunk as it tumbled down 3 stories on the very same ship, gently smashing into 2 other not-so-well-fastened 8s, and ending up with a couple of "dings".

A new GTI sounds like good news to me. Nice choice, they are fun cars too and I love the interior in them.

There's a lot of RX-8's ready to be driven off dealer lots. Unless you absolutely have to have one with freaking door edge guards or some other obscure option, just buy one of those. Lord.

Hey,
sorry about the late reply. We just moved and I didn't have an internet service. Anyway, to answer all your questions...
BunnyGirl: I was looking for one with a navigation unit and the GT package. For some reason the dealer didn't order one of those and had to make a change to one of this existing requests. I know it is not the dealer's fault. What I am pissed about is that they didn't bother telling me about this till I asked them. That's what I'm more irritated about. A good dealer should keep you informed.

Curley: The GTI is a great car. Its engine is really sweet and has quite a broad torque band. It pulls clean even in the 6th gear. It is a bit heavy though. that is quite noticable but it handles great and corners pretty flat. There is a slight roll if you push it a lot in a corner. Apart from that its a great car. Feels quite solid and sturdy. And a lot of leg room front and back. I got the 4 dr one. And it gives me 29 MPG on average. Thats a bonus. I was prepared for the RX8's fuel consumption.

Moostafa29: None of the dealers in this area had any 06 left unfortunately. So that option was ruled out.

I test drove a MkV GTI, I loved it. Handles great and has a lot of torque (which made for an extra fun test drive). Almost bought a black one had I not found my 8.
