Safety and side signals on the RX-8.

U.S. DOT regulations state that passenger vehicles must have side markers that are amber on the front half of the car and red on the rear half of the car. They even go further...the white side markers we have are actually illegal. The side markers on the front must reflect an amber color and the rear side markers must reflect red. The clear corners actually reflect white which legally is a violation of the automobile safety regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation regulations. Shhhhhh, don't tell them that I got these on my RX-8.

I'd have to agree, there are many more bad drivers out there then there are good ones. Most people are not aware of what's going on around them, many just focus straight ahead then there are others who don't care and have a ME attitide. How do you know if the SUV at the intersection didn't see your turn signal or just was ignorant and wanted to be the first through? It happens all the time.

i almost got smashed when there was a double left turning lane (2 lanes that turned left). I was in the 2nd turning lane (the one on the right) and the guy in the first turning lane decided to go strait. He almost hit me then he almost hit the median across the street. i went very slow around the turn there because it was raining, but if i was going normal speed i would have been hit hard. i was so mad...ps he was in an suv
i used to own an explorer, and i found i get cut off so much more in the 8

I have good news big D :D ...US DOT regulations are not laws but recommendations for states...my state is running light, signal, reflector statutes from the seventies or so...I've read all the regulations and white through amber are allowed in the front...not just for signal markers (our clear corners) but for turn signals too! that is why I have bright white LEDs for my turn signals, clear corners, and running lights
the statutes in minnesota actually say nothing about the color of the turn signals in the front (in the back it must be red or amber) and the statute states: to check with the department of public safety for colors and timing of lights bulbs...I call the DPS and it was never formally addressed as when the statutes were made almost all cars had a minimal light array (just white for reverse and red for braking and turning)...thus it is a grey area of the law, I was told I can have the lights I have now as there is nothing against it and that if for some reason a law enforcement officer were to ticket me I could have it thrown out in less then a minute because the judges known there is no statutes or case law on the matter
and I will post my DIY on load equalizers even though it is easy
just want everyone to install them so it doesn't burn anything in the car
another example is laser guns...the US DOT (department of transportation to clarify) has regulations that state you should not use them for speed acqusition over 800ft as the laser beam spreads out too far to get an accurate read (3ft spread at 600ft)....but in many states the law enforcement agencies are using the laser guns at 1000, 1200 or more feet (which is easy to contest in court just so you know...the case law supports the driver at these distances but know one contests there ticket, only 2% of tickets are contested in Court)
I'm getting a laser jammer...I'm not messing around anymore

Thanks for the clarification on that. I guess I didn't read the fine print on that document. :D Then again, I almost fell asleep several times while reading it.
I guess it is safe to say this then. I believe in all states that the rear of the vehicle cannot have white lights excepting the reverse lights, which are on only while reversing, and the license plate light, which cannot be seen from the rear of the car as it is only for illumination of the license plate. There cannot be red lights on the front of the vehicle. And lastly, there cannot be blue lights anywhere on the vehicle. Of course, this is only viewable lights that are on the outside or viewable from the outside.
I didn't know there was a speed of blinking regulation...so, I guess I might order the load equalizers for my LED turnsignals.

check your state statutes about blinker speed...I did not clarify in my post that the Department of Public Safety had never officially supplemented the statute with timing information so anything is game, technically even strobe lights are (not addressed in the statutes either) legal but you will be pulled over and ticket for something since it is Illegal in most other states anyway
so change it if you want D...it is up to you (I wish it could be at a double blink, single blink is to slow (what it is now) and triple blinkis too fast)

Here's what it says in the Mass Drivers manual about your intersection (I would assume these are the same in almost any state as they are fairly generic):
Four-Way Stop
At an intersection controlled by stop signs in all directions, you must yield the right-of-way to...
• Another vehicle that has already come to a full stop at the intersection
• A vehicle on your immediate right that has stopped at the intersection at the same time as you
Confusion can develop at four-way stop intersections.
You should try to make eye contact with the drivers of other vehicles at the intersection
to better judge their intentions and avoid accidents.
Turning Left
When making any left turn, you must first yield the right-of-way to any...
• Oncoming vehicle
• Vehicle already in the intersection
• Pedestrians or bicyclists crossing your intended path of travel
----------------------------------
However, you were to his right and you have the ROW to go 1st... but the ROW is not something that is taken, but given. So in any event what others have said is true... just make sure that the guy to your left knows your intentions and just drive heads up.
It doesn't matter if the guy was going straight across the intersection or not. You are correct that the person to the right at a 4-way intersection has the ROW. But what's another 15 seconds of to wave someone through?![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Damn, I think I'm going to splice into the side marker using the wire inside the headlight that blinks.
At the same time, I'm gonna disconnect the running side light.
That makes it a blinker and refector only.
