Salvageable RX8

Hello RX8 enthusiasts,
I currently own a Mazda 6s wagon (with all the options) =), and I'm in the market for a second vehicle. I have had a fascination with the 8 since I worked at a Mazda dealership a few years ago. I love the concept and the design of the vehicle.

So like i said Im in the market and I have a few dollars put away. I came across an 04 red RX8 with red and black leather interior,k&n intake, borla exhaust,6 speed with 93k on it. over all its in great condition but it has a damaged Dvr-side, front end.

The information the current owner told me, and additional info: when the vehicle was received it did have some minor rear end damage, and it has an R title. the current owner fixed the damage and drove the vehicle. 2 weeks after fixing the vehicle he says he was in a low speed collision, and clipped the rear end of another vehicle..

I can purchase it for $4000, but I am curious if it would be a smarter option to buy one that hasn't been crashed for 8500? I do enjoy the red and black interior =P

I would get a quote to have the damage fixed, and factor that into what would cost you the least. Seeing the extent of the damage, I would say go with the $8,500 if you can.

Edit: Get the $8500 due to your fuse box being uncovered, hood open, AND it raining

Only get something like this if it's a project and you have other wheels. She looks sweet it's a definate saver.

Honestly, this car looks like more of a hassle then its worth
Visible damage is one thing, but who knows how many ghosts you'll be chasing down the road. (Structural integrity, Mechanical integrity)

I just have a feeling you'll be pulling your hair trying to get this car running and looking up to par.

Go with the not demolished one for $8500, as it may still have some engine warranty and you'll have no hassle with getting it on the road. If anything, ask the guy with the demolished one if you could give him some cash for the interior and just transfer it, and then pawn off the interior in the $8500 one.

The body on that one looks pretty twisted for a low speed collision. The unibody might be pretty messed up under all that.

see if you can haggle out some parts. mainly anything you would want on the 8500 dollar one that you buy. Plus at that mileage you are almost out of warranty anyways. just part out what you want from the car and see what kinda money they are asking for the things you want in your new car.

The fusebox in the car hasn't been exposed that was for pictures only. I am hoping that I will be able to invest no more than 3000 to get it on the road.. the labor is going to cost me next to nothing, I am just paying for parts....

It is pretty much a project I want a nice ride to drive sometimes.. I have the Mazda 6 that is my daily driver... I just don't want to pass up a sweet deal that I can save some money on by fixing... I have done some looking around and I can get most of the body parts for 1000 or less..

that's pretty rough for a low speed crash. Since it's already an R titile I'd do as the others said and walk away. I can't tell from the pics, but you might be looking at some suspension damage as well. At the very least, you'll need a fender, hood, bumper cover, core support and headllight (this will set you back a bit being HID). You'll probably have to get a new bumper support and crash bar as well. It doesn't look far enough back to kill the radiator and condenser, but they could be gone too. If the one for 8500 has a clean title, it's a better buy. Unless of course, it's over the 100,000 mile warranty.

Get it! And just get an aftermarket bumper... you can get a hood and fender here at the forum for cheap and get it painted... you can basically do that youself, thats what I did with my car, but I got it for $3000! And then get new plugs, oil, coolant... to make sure that you got everything set for your car! What about the airbags, are they deployed?

4 k? Hell no

I would take it for 1 k. Not because I want to fix it. I would try to part the car out and see if I can get something outta it.

And look at that k&n ver 1 !!!!! That's a huge failed.

Run as fast as u can

you have to remember though salvage yards know what a cars worth in parts, so sometimes they will make offers too.

4K is too much for that RX8.

My buddy bought a fully loaded with nav 04 with 70K that had flood damage on the title for only $4500. Which was a steal in comparison to this, you can find better.

A second wreck on a rebuild title = no thank you.

Airbags are fine everything is in great condition accept the physical damage.. Hood, Bumper, fender, headlight, Upper mender shroud, fender bracket, and the wheel pan apron... is all the physical damage there is.

The Upper mender shroud got pushed into the fuse box just a little and i am thinking that is what is causing it not to start.

And btw the part where the fender goes is not detachable... is part of the whole frame of the car, you gonna need some body work there. And if you are lucky the bracket from the headlight is not broke because it cost around 110 on the dealer

Let's see... it was 4k? I'd say try to get it for 2k. That way you have 6500 left over (deducting 2k from the pricier one) to fix and modify this one.

But you should try to get an estimate and try starting it, whether it be by de-flooding or other means, since you don't know exactly what is wrong. And remember to keep in mind the voided warranty, the lack of resale and potential for a lifetime of issues...

You should try to get the black one a bit cheaper and the wrecked one super cheap. Then swap various parts, like the interiors, and pawn the wrecker to a salvage yard, or part it out.

Honestly though, I'd just go for the no hassle black one still, but do as you see fit mate.
