I am on Long Island, New York and picked up a brand new '05 leftover in Nov '06 for $24K. It is a blue 6MT with all the options except nav. Dealer had 3 leftovers and accepted $9K under sticker.
Pros: Price, handling, baby seat friendly, 6 to 4 downshifts at 70mph, styling (in + out)
Cons: Torque (need i even mention this?), checking the oil every 2 fill-ups, squeaky brakes.
For the price I paid, I am very happy with the car. Not sure if I would feel the same if I shelled out the $34K sticker.

Recent owner. 'o4 AT GT. Dealers are idiots concerning factory warranties, but we all already knew that...I broke my cigarette lighter cover (I do not know how), and it was fixed but they said they "couldn't duplicate" my squeaky brakes. My ***. Oh well, going to slotted rotors soon...
PROs: the looks. Everyone and their mom is constantly staring. Me being 22, I love the attention and the questions. "Stupid kids..." anyway, handles on rails! Love the stock taillights, bright headlights, internal airflow through windows, seat comfortability, the "purr", cool gages, a total night cruiser
CONs: road noise (though sometimes I like it), squeaky brakes, fear of flooding, an absolute bug magnet! gas mileage when cruising (duh), constant cop attention, sometimes I want to scream at my navigation system, expecting to replace cat soon, longevity concerns, and having to buy 91.
all in all, it's a great car. with most sports cars comes risk.

Three and a half years, 64K miles on my 04 Base model and still highly satisfied.
I had one tail light replaced (condensation), and once taken in for not being able to shift into 6th gear (replaced the trans fluid, never happened again).
Replaced the brake disks with EBC slotted/drilled and green stuff and added RX8Strakes silver. All the recalls, flashes were done promptly but had to search for a dealer service that I liked. Never a single engine problem except one flood by the wife within two months of purchase, but she learned fast after that and knows the warmup drill ; )
Smile every day when I get in and I hear the beep every day. Love the handling and fast enough for my purposes. Add to that this website for great information and good folks.

Highly Satisfied
I am still in the Honeymoon phase I know, only 200 miles on the car, but I have never driven a vehicle that was so much fun to drive, so responsive and just plain beautiful. I hope I feel this way about it for a long time.

How can I not love this car? I've only had it four days now, but I can't see myself getting tired of it unless it starts become a pain to upkeep. Poor fuel efficiency, sure. I'll still spend twice as much on food each month. If I had a 30 mile commute one-way on the interstate, I probably wouldn't use the RX-8 to do it. Lucky for me, I'm moving 5 miles from my office next month, so I'll drive this car to work every day. I'm still planning to take it cross country next fall, too.

I would have to say I am highly satisfied with my car. I haven't been more happier with my car. I had a Camaro and Trans Am before it, and those are pretty hard to top.
The little qwerks with the car aren't a big deal to me, the thing that makes me not Totally Satisfied is the fact that all the Mazda Dealerships are 90% of the time worthless and just give over all bad Customer Service and in my case, never have really fixed anything to be honest with you.
Besides the Mazda techs, I'm highly satisfied, if I could take it the dealership and have it fix quick and easy then I'd be totally satisfied =)

I wish there could've been a rating higher than 'highly satisfied' as i'm kicking myself for not getting one earlier. And the best part is that my Mrs., for the first time, is actually happy with me !!! My kids love it eversince i threw in a DVD changer, so now they get to see their movies; cars, happy feet & flippin' telly-tubbies whilst we're on the move. And what about the mileage, who cares when one is having so much fun and that too with style......cowabunga

Car now 1 year old over 16K trouble free miles, just got new Toyo tires - only problem could not find tire lug key - but they came off OK anyway and dealer will replace wheel locks...
This car is a classic! People admire it everyday!
Edited - Ok I did replace orginal battery which was weak, and did not survive supercold 7 degree cold - this was free from dealer, and I did replace firewall that got damaged by a rodent or two....

Hi. I've just read your message. You said you have rough idle on your car. I got the same issue. Cannot fix it. Went to 3 dealership. One of them said i gotta change the whole tranny. Another said that is nothing wrong with it. The 3rd one changed engine mount. Problem semmed to dissapear. But now i have the same ROUGH IDLE again. Don't know what to do. Did you fix your problem already? If yes, can you tell me what the problem was. I would really appriciate it. Thank you

I fall into the highly satisfied category. I bought the car as a left over last May and have over 17k miles. No problems other than the mandatory recalls. Overall, a fun car that gets attention no matter where I take it.

I bought my car from my brother last February and I LOVE IT! It looks great, sounds great, and it handles turn, curves, distance driving and city driving with such finesse and style that some days I just drive for the sake of driving! My only complaint would be low city MPG, but the rest of the features makes that a small price to pay for such an amazing vehicle! HIGHLY SATISFIED!

stop flooding ur engines
HIGHLY SATISFIED....
i drove a 2004 when i was 18 at rev it up in june of 04 and fell in love...2 years and many paychecks later it was all mine...i ordered my 06 in jan of 06, before they even made one for the US and i got it march 29th of 06....ive had it a lil over a year and have almost 27k miles.....i love the engine, handling, and the goofy doors. even tho id prefer a 2 door 2 seater version of an rx8, if it HAS to be four door, then the freestyle configuration is my fav!!! just one thing tho, whyd dint we get auto up/down windows on both sides? the car cost 26k! damn!!!!! o well...maybe next gens will have them, in 2011 my car will be paid off, if they have a gen 2 rx8, ill be orderin me one of those too! hopefully it looks like the kabura!
there is not another car on the planet id own

Loving it
I just got a gray 04 rx8 and I love it. Gas milage isn't too bad, although it is still stock. 6spmt, red and black leather heated seats, bose adio. I have previously owned a protoge 5 and an audi 1.8t quattro. So far this car is my favorite.

ehh
i would be completely satisfied with my 2004 touring rx-8 if it were better on gas, and the air conditioner worked slightly better. but if u ignore those two facts about it, its a amazingly fun car. easy to drive, goes when u want it to... most of the time. needs to be slightly more torque-y-er... umm... speeling?
anyways, easy to drift, TSC and DSC work great. cars a bit twitchy in the rain, so i havent bothered taking DSC off in the rain, but i imagine i would end up lookin the wrong way pretty quick. the navigation system i got w/ the car is good... just good. maybe its just me or maybe i need a updated CD, but w/e.
on a scale from 1-10 i give the rx-8 a 8...

Hi,
I'm from Austria and i voted highly satisfied. It's the best car i ever drive before ... like riding a motorcycle just with 4 wheels.
My gas mileage is low i think .. 13l / 100 km which is ok for a 231HP (at Fylwheel) car. It's a 2007 RX-8 and it goes very well .. 210km/h at nearly 6000 rpm in 6th gear. I don't try to drive full because our highways are restricted .. so it can get VERY expensive to test the car full ..
Greetings
EdFred

Totally satisfied.
If I wanted mileage, I would have bought a Toyota.
If I wanted a smooth idle, I would have bought a Cadillac.
If I wanted to have a blast just running back & forth to work every day.........
Far & away the best handling, best balanced, easiest to drive (with enthusiasm)
car of the many I have owned.

Neutral.
It's my wifes car, but I drive it every day. It doesn't have enough power for me to overlook the complaints I have with it (doors fling back closed too easy, visors are useless aside from the holes, they're too short, the rearview mirror is way too low to where it obstructs frontward vision, tiny trunk opening, mpg etc.).
However, I love the styling, handling, and overall feel you get while in the car. Too bad it didn't have my speed3's turbocharged engine - now THAT would be an awesome car.
edit: It's a 2005 AT sport.
