Scared to death. Got a problem with my 8.
I was driving home when all of a sudden I felt a sort of power loss. I made it home, but now when I turn the car on, it feels like its choking a little bit, and its a rough idle, and the check engine light keeps flashing on and off. I dont know what the heck it could be. It sounded like a belt problem maybe, when I was shifting I heard almost like a quick whistle. Anyone know what this could be? Im getting sick to my stomach

Its not under warranty anymore. Only 17k miles on it. Regular oil changes, I use the recommended oil. Base model 07. Not long commutes, I drive it around town etc though. Premium Fuel used, never flooded, I redline it at least once a week. I dont know what it could be. It was running fine when all of a sudden this happened. All i have is a K&N intake on it. How can I check if a hose is blown?

This is what Mazda says on 2007-2009 cars. When was it first purchased?
"Mazda warrants that new 2007, 2008 and 2009 Mazda cars and trucks will be free of defects with normal use and prescribed maintenance for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Ordinary maintenance items, adjustments, parts subject to normal wear and certain other items are excluded. This transferable "limited warranty" is included on all new Mazda vehicles sold and serviced in the United States."

Duh then I am under warranty. My head is lost atm. I have a K&N V2. I cant take the car to any shops, it seems undriveable. It keeps choking. Hope this isnt a huge problem. What can I look for to weed any symptoms out?

to check for a loose/blown intake hose:
-Follow intaking piping AFTER MAF sensor to throttle body.
-Check all coupling/fasteners and make sure they are tight.
-Look for cracks.
-Check MAF sensor's electrical connection.

"Tie-In Sales" Provisions
Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions.
In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.
While you cannot use a tie-in sales provision, your warranty need not cover use of replacement parts, repairs, or maintenance that is inappropriate for your product. The following is an example of a permissible provision that excludes coverage of such things.
While necessary maintenance or repairs on your AudioMundo Stereo System can be performed by any company, we recommend that you use only authorized AudioMundo dealers. Improper or incorrectly performed maintenance or repair voids this warranty.
Although tie-in sales provisions generally are not allowed, you can include such a provision in your warranty if you can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the FTC that your product will not work properly without a specified item or service.

They cannot void your warranty but I guarantee that you will get immortal hell for that intake being on there. They will try everything under their power to blame it on the intake (see sig). I have walked a mile in your shoes brother and it is not pretty. Get that intake off the car and take it to the dealer.

Also, if I purchase a Mazdaspeed CAI..technically they cannot give me any problems with that though correct? Since they sell it at the dealership and its Mazda brand? Im thinking about making a switch.

i don't see where they could.
didn't mean to sound so negative back there. i had the same problem you did while i had my intake on and it was the first thing they pointed to as the cause when in fact it was something else. its just a sore spot with me cause the dealership always wanted to say it was my fault. i finally threw my hands up and just put the stock intake on so they would quit bitching about it everytime i went up there.

but then again, dealer's say stupid stuff all the time. Wouldn't be surprised if someone with a ms CAI was threatened with voiding warranties.

An air filter will not void your warranty. There are laws about it. Read this. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act
