scored 27mpg
just got back from a 135 mile trip from Jackson, MS to Monroe, LA.... weight wise me the girlfriend and a bunch of freakin luggage (hers of course) started the trip out going around 80mph.. then varied from 80 to 95 for about 30 miles, then decided to chill out at 72 mph, i finished the trip at that speed. I drove around town here for about 5 miles...........
Needless to say filled up with 5.161 gallons of gas with 140.6 which comes out to 27.24mpg
it has had the latest recalls and flash done (done last week), i used to average 20mpg on the same trip at 80mph

yup 91 octane was used, as far as the drive goes. The hurricane didnt have an effect on that stretch of highway, mississippi is still bumpy as rice cake, and louisiana is just a big straight away..... pot holes and mega road construction consume the roads in monroe.

i filled the tank completely each time (till gas came to the opening) i didnt notice any tilt of the ground... the first gas station was a kangeroo and the second was a walmart, walmart at least wouldnt have a slope on their station, even if there was a varience with fill ups it couldnt be that much and the fact that i got well over 20 mpg makes me a happy camper
also thought that ppl might like to know that 72mph might yield them advertised mpg or better (also the ac was off)

My gas (or at least my gauge) tends to go really quick the closer I get to empty, so I would think that number is not completely accurate, especially since you had all of the extra weight, and your speed varied at the beginning. Plus, I don't think the proper way to gauge fuel economy is by measuring partial tanks.

naw i didnt measure by the gauge.... i filled my car and zero'd out the miles... then i filled back up and divided the miles driven by the amount of fuel it took to fill it back up

so your saying the only way to get a true highway mpg judgement is driving 330 miles continuously.... 27mpg is 27 mpg if you went 160 miles or 330 miles

My car seems to be getting better with age. How many miles does you car have?
I go through no oil at all (have never needed to add) and I always get in excess of 20 MPG, regardless of driving conditions. This winter I plan to baby it and see if I can break the 30 MPG mark. (I am think 55ish on the highway in the dead of winter will do it.)

dark brew: just got an oil change through the dealership, you know they always overfill, so i couldn't tell how much was used, probably harldy any, also there wasn't to much sut in the tailpipe though
8_is_enuf: right now its a little over 22K, i think it sounds better with age

Remember my thread, about my best 100% city fuel economy ever...of 20.24mpg. Well, the next tank gave me 19.7mpg (while driving normal...not conservatively) and it seems I'm getting very good gas miliage again with this tank. I think something happened when I hit 5K miles and my Renesis is just now breaking in...regarding fuel economy.
I know I've heard the rotary engine get's better with some miles on it but at this rate I might be getting 20mpg in the city as the "norm".

I know we've beat this poor horse twice to death - but I've got 4,980mi on my '05 Shinka now, and I can get 230mi on a 14gal fill-up if I drive a 60/40 mix of street/freeway - but what's weird is I burn a ton of oil. Last time I looked I was all the way down to the 3rd dot! I poured in a whole quart which didn't bring it up all the way, which was weird?
Anyway - I'm hoping I get that magic switch into fuel economy at some point, because this 16-17mpg thing sucks... even though I'm not going to go broke - it still sucks.
Cheers.

I get 21-22 every time I fill up (once a week) using only chevron 93* gas and 6oz of lucas fuel treatment with 12oz of synthetic 2 cycle oil (pre mix). On the highway I get 24-25, i have only done a long highway trip 4 times, each time was the same 24-25mpg, it was cruising with the ac on all the way, windows up, correct air pressure, maby 50lbs of luggage plus me and passenger and cruise set at 72mph.
I am very happy with my car, it also has the power to step sideways on the 1-2 shift, and give a loud 1 sec chirp on 2-3 and a quick chirp 3-4.
So i guess I got lucky and got a 'lean' car, along with the fact that the lucas and premix is leaning out the A/F a little.
I just made the switch to syn in the car, so Im running full syn now (eng, trany and diff) along with a special coolant (NTP). I have only run thru one tank with the full syn setup but it bumped my avg up from 21-22 to 22.8mpg, so I think I might be able to avg 1 more mpg with the better fluids.
I am really wondering if when i get revi and exhaust if it will boost my power and mpg like others or if I might lose power from upsetting the balance.

The 2cycle thing is old new in rotary world. lots of rx7s do it.....why? cuase engine oil is good for 1 thing lubricating engines, its not really that great for injection into the combustion chamber, as in a rotary....so lots of people mix 2 cycle oil in the gastank, 12oz on a full tank gives me about a 160:1 ratio (160 parts gas for 1 part oil) the 2cycle oil I run is synthetic and is smokeless, so no smoke comes out, and no ash/carbon is left in the engine/exhaust.
The MPG didnt change with just the 2cycle, but it did get smother, and the car seems to use less oil.

My brother-in-law drove an 04' RX-8. He got around 16-18MPG. I drive an 05' and get 20-22MPG. Yes I know this is good, yes I have the latest flash, yes I got this same gas mileage before the recall & flash. My point......
.....ummm...oh yea I really think it may be luck of the draw as to what kind of gas mileage you get. I also use Shell 93 octane V-Power almost exclusively (Just FYI).
So many threads I've read on here about gas mileage and it amazes me the variance between vehicles.
