Seat travel / legroom

I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. Had a 2nd generation rx-7 and loved it. My problem is legroom. I am 6'1" 230lb and must be all leg. Even with all the seats adjested as far back and down as possible my leg (just above knee) is basically touching the wheel (even tilted full up). Does anyone know of any possible aftermarket mods like longer seat rails that can be done to get a few more inches? There is still unusable space before the rear seat, it would be great to use it. The dealer says nothing can be done. A real bummer - it's the only thing holding me back - gotta be comfortable. Any ideas besides cutting a few inches off legs (already considered)?

You must have some REALLY long legs, because I'm 6'5" and fit very easily. BTW I have a 36" inseam. I had a 2nd gen too, and I think the 8 has a lot more room. I also had a 3rd gen and that was a different story. Had to drive w/ my head tilted, but it was worth it.

nk, what's your inseam? Lots of people taller than 6'1" fit into this car. That's weird.

I would make sure that you really REALLY had the seat all the way back and down. The manual seat adjusts in increments each time you move the lever. The power seat also moves a little different than I was used to and it took me a little messing with to really get it moved all the way.

P.S. -- I am 6'3" 275 lbs. and am perfectly comfortable in my GT. Drove a sport (no moonroof) and had tons of head room. I don't even put my seat ALL the way back for leg room. so I am little confused with all the comments from shorter people about head and leg room

RX-TASY,

I really am very comfortable in this car. Maybe I have a different perspective, I've been 6'5" since I was 16 and have had sports cars ever since then. I think I've had 14 different kinds in the 23 years I've been driving, so I've never had a car that I had a lot of room in. But the 8 is very comfortable for me, more so than a lot of others I've had. So my point is I may have a different definition of what's comfortable and what I fit in. I was on the verge of buying an S2000 before I drove the 8. The S2000 was a very tight fit, as a matter of fact it probably was too small. When I took my wife to drive the 8 she commented that I fit in it w/out any problems. She was very concerned that the S2000 was too small for me. She was right (as usual). I usually have trouble getting in and out, but can usually get comfortable once I'm in, but in the 8 I have no problems there either. I do admit that in the 8 I will have a hard time getting anyone in the backseat behind me. I can move the seat up a little bit and still drive but not much.

Did you spend much time adjusting the seats and the steering wheel? I'll go back to the dealer and see how close my legs are to the steering wheel and let you know. Go try it on again and see what happens. Did you take it for a drive, sometimes you can find a better position when you're actually driving.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I don't get it though. I will take a ride over with a friend that is also pretty tall and see how he feels. I sat there for 15 minutes adjusting seats every which way I could. Salesman who obviously wanted to sell a car didn't have any advice either?

RX22, you have the GT package and still fit in the RX-8? I also have a 36 inseam, have about the same height as you and don't fit because of the sunroof. My head is rubbing on the headliner. I will have to buy a car that only has the sport package and cloth seats because that's the only combination that has no goddamn sunroof. Grrrrr...
Other than that, I don't have an issue with LEGroom. Only headroom.

Me too. Sat in a GT-package one today and my head was brushing the roof, and I'm only 6'1" (33" inseams)...

How the hell do you fit, RX22?!?!

As I've mentioned here before, I'm 6'1 and don't fit in anything with a sunroof and just barely fit in a Sport (OK with headroom but will smash my head on the roofline where it comes down to meet the door if I go over a wicked speed bump.)

It's all a matter of whether your height is primarily in your legs or your torso...
