Seen White RX-8 in person, & New Key Fob 2005!
I went to Browning Mazda in Cerritos to get my 15k maintenance and fortunately I was able to bump into ibfubar2000 (Robert) there. He was able to show me the Key fob for the White RX-8 in front of the showroom area.
First Impression is that that white isn't all that. Maybe because of the shade... or the dust on the car, but it just wasn't impressive. Makes yellow look more appealing.
The Key Fob is neat... I suppose. But like I told Robert, I was planning to get an aftermarket alarm system, so the key fob 'could' become useless if I can't manipulate it to work with the new alarm. He said he would be checking on the price for the fob... I would guestimate it to be at least 150+ for programming/cutting/key fob.... since the Mercedes version can cost upwards of 200+ just to replace it.
Mazda should learn to be a bit more adventurous with their colors.. like Nissan does. Crazy oranges, weird burgandys, etc. With the white, it should sparkle like crazy... but it's pretty simple. I would think people would miss it amongst the vast highways of the California freeways. When you see a Blue or Yellow RX-8.. it just screams for your attention. The White would simply blend in with the rest.

Yeah, drove and oogled a velocity red the other day, LOVE the pearl effect of that and the blue, Mazda definitely should've done a pearl white.
So what was the new fob like then? [Nevermind, found the pic]

It was pearl white.. but it wasn't all that when you look at it in person. Looks just like any other white on the street.
Could have done a chameleon color... green/blue/purple like the FD. :P

doesn't perl white have a bluish hue/tint to it at angles ? I always thought so, kinda like a "pearl"
perhaps the pearl process was done in a cheap-O way, hence the $200 markup well, I trust you, I 've always loved pearl white but if its not that impressive, it must be a bad paint job.

Untrue, I went back to oogle (show the GF) the red RX-8 I am debating over, and under the bright (OK, well, yes under bright light maybe) parking lot lights you could clearly make out it was metallic with its sparkles.
Yes, a very good "true" pearl white ends up haveing a blue/purple hue to it, like a sheen. a not so good is one that looks like an accord.

Yeah, I saw one in Japan and agree. It is a pearl white, but you can't see the pearl unless you get up close. From a distance or depending on the lighting, it looks like a plain white. But the pearl does have a very nice look in the right lighting.
It will be interesting to see how much the new style key actually costs. The Benz key is expensive because it's a Benz! Metallic paint is an option on MBs and BMWs and its around $500 extra vs. the $200 for Mazda's pearl.

Good question, I didn't peep at the production date...
Sticker on B-pillar? The B-Pillar looked like any old RX-8 pillar. Nothing special about it. I'll take some pix tomorrow morning when I go over there and get my car worked on. Hopefully my cam works.

I think he just means that there is a lot of confusion about the White paint job.
The first two replies in this thread say Mazda should have done a "pearl" paint job. Well, it IS pearl, and I think it is a nice pearly paintjob IF you like that type of thing.
I didn't think the car looked good in White at all (saw it at Anaheim Mazda).
He is probably also referring to the fact that people appear to be rather divided on whether this paint job looks good on the 8, so he is going to check it out himself (which is what everyone should do if possible anyway).

Go check out Galpin Mazda's Orange RX-8 with Orange interior... Supposedly they have a crazy white one there now with custom white interior to match the exterior.

hey post a pic of the key fob please
or atleast tell us more about it...
1. does the actually key part look like ours?
2. Is it a flipout or is it a switchblade type
3. where are the buttons (the side or top?)
thanks so much (also could you ask if the '04 owners could purchase one?)
