well guys, i have to say that i have been looking at an Audi TT now for about a week. The rx8 has been once again acting up, and im not sure how much i like that. The audis are nice, but im not sure i can let me rx8 go. What are some suggestions??? Should sell it or not???

No actually, it is a 2004 audi roadster.
The rx8, just isn't running like it should, and as always the mazda dealership cant find anything wrong.

If you think the RX has issues, you'll probably in for a world of trouble with a used Audi.

Pretty car with a pretty interior and a nice engine, though I really only like the coupes. Other than that not a whole lot of nice things I can say about them. They don't handle very well, they're not very fast, they're heavy for their size, and they're not very reliable.

Save some money and get the beetle. It's essentially the same car. LOL!!!
Before I got the 8, I test drove the TT mkI. I wanted to like it. Alas, it felt woolley.. typical of most VAG cars. The shifter felt like wet pasta, the handling is vague. Not a driver's car for sure. But if you just want something to poodle along on some popular local strip I'm sure it's fine. The interior is kewl. It'll never be taken seriously as a sports car tho especially the FWD version which is lighter than the so-called Quattro which really is a Haldex unlike true Audis.
the 1.8t is mod friendly tho.

Well. Listen to me. Im actually going from my 00 S4 to an 8. They are great cars, and probably some of the safest around. Luxury at its finest, but if your going to get an Audi, you have to go new. Reason why I'm getting rid of mine is because I got it used, too many problems, and maintenance costs are horrendous. If you have some pretty deep pockets just to throw money away I guess you could go for it, but its not worth it at the end.

I'd trade for a Accura TL luxury sport sedan. The Audi TT is nice but for a better Audi and near same price get the Audi A4 Luxury Sport sedan better all away round. But for the same money and better reliability get the Accura TL or Integra upgrade. My 2 cent.

I also heard used Audi have tons of problems. I recently have a friend switching from an A4 to a 2007 Accord (his was an 04). Honda Accord is not the best car in the world, but it has to be one of the most reliable ones out in the market, in my opinion this is.

My wife owned an Audi TT coupe for a little while and I drove it quite a bit. It is a mediocre driving experience in comparison to the RX-8. The power is decent and the gas mileage was great, but all in all a boring car to drive.

I will say, it is the best looking car we've ever owned and my wife loved it. You're right, I always thought it looked like a squashed beetle.

It really depends on what you want out of a car. Like others have said, it's a great car to roll around and look good in, but it's not engaging.

I never really dug the whole "bauhaus" styling. Although I thought the concept car looked cool, something got lost in translation.

Why not just get a 330i with a stick if you want more of a luxury tourer? Its way more car. A G35 sedan would be a better choice in terms of a luxury/performance car over the TT too, IMO.

Faster than an RX-8 on a roadcourse for the FWD TT coupe (Car & Driver current month)...

My family has had several VAG products and they have all had rock-solid reliability. They are excellent cars, but for the most part not the type that's really going to satisfy a serious driver. They might be fast, and made very fast very easy, but it's hard to have that wonderful connection with the car that the RX-8 has so much of.

The OP is looking at an 04, which is a far cry from the performance of the new car. Also, depending on the track the Rx8, can be crippled by gearing/lack of torque which can sometimes overcome its superlative handling. I wish I could find the guy that picked the 4th gear ratio and punch him in the face.

I own both an Audi TT, quattro coupe, and an RX8. I needed the 8 for the larger back seat and am selling the TT. I must say the TT has a bit more pep but I'm really starting to like driving the 8.

Honestly though, for the price difference I'd keep the 8 and add a turbo.

one of our policy holder own a 05 audi tt. all i can say is he owned it for 5months, and during those 5months he had problems with it. he is now in a the market for s2k , saturn sky or rx8.

I went the other way, except I had an A4. And omg, did I have monthly problems with that car. Unless you plan on leasing your TT, I wouldn't recommend getting it just for maintenance costs/hassles. As bad as some people complain about the Rx8's maintenance issues, they're nothing to me. At least I don't have to go back to the dealership every month for minor technical problems with the cars electronics. (And I don't have to get my airbags reset because the car thinks I'm about to crash and gets ready to deploy them.)

However, the new TT does look nice. I just wouldn't get it. If I had to go piston, I'd get some other roadster...

If you're interested, I'm selling my 2003 A4. It's a 3.0 Quattro and Audi Certified to 100k miles, there are 54k miles on it now. I just bought an RX-8 but was going to get hosed on the trade-in. I am not looking to make any money on it, just get rid of it as I don't want the extra car payment. I put it on craigs list and stuff for $21k, so if you want to make a reasonable offer let me know

It's fully loaded... sports package, premium, bose, xenons, moonroof, ipod integration kit, and also I added the rear S4 sway bar. It doesn't handle like an RX-8 but definately a quiet and comfortable ride.

100k warranty is nice, should help you sell it more easily as the new owner won't have to worry about it much. I had the occasion to drive a A4 v6 w/ 6speed to cleveland with my friend. It was around november and the AWD was nice to have in some of the dicey weather. Nice car.

It all depends on which TT...
The new TT is an amazing car...very expensive though...very crampy even though it's larger than previous. Compares easily to a Porsche with all the bells and whistles. The older tt's are not the same. If it's a 1.8T older TT , the turbo lag is a drag...It doesn't handle as great as an 8 but gas mileage is about 18 city , 23 highway. I think my 8 handles and feels better on the road. FWD is still good but not like Quattro. I still got stuck once in snow but it was a dumb play...If you get Quattro you'll probably like it but even the 225 is , to me, not as much fun as the 8. Blind spots galore, needs winter wheels as does the 8 .Parts are a killer. If it's new and you have a great rapport with the dealer , you can get them to do good things. I think that's the way it is with Mazda too. I had an RX 7 for 125k , an '87...they treated me great even though i didn't buy it there. Audi was also nice. Free oil changes...maintenance etc. BUT if something goes wrong with that car , and it's not covered , you may be in for some big bills. Audi stuff cost big bucks which , if not on warranty , will kill the better gas mileage trade off. I had a 2000 TT coupe 180 FWD and loved that car. Too small for people but a ton of cargo space for sure...Forget the roadster...no room for anything but you and a friend. Unique , fun but crampy and i'm 5'9" and 140 pounds. It was not as fast as my 8 and not as much fun and IMHO not as cool looking either. The new TT is a different animal...That car is a gas. $45,000 plus.
We are talkin' big time sports car for pretty big money...can almost get a really nice Porsche which is even more expensive to care for. Audi has changed the warranty too . Not as before with all the great coverage. Check that out.

Personally,I think it's a "taste" thing. Supposedly Japanese cars are more dependable. Both these cars are quirky as we know. If you get a good one you're great, get a freak and you'll be sorry. With the Audi if it is nasty they will cover just about everything on warranty but check out the newer warranty first. It might not be the same. Most times you can do better with a CPO from a dealer. I would never buy it privately. You need a warranty. If I had to choose between NEW TT with the only engine available at this time , and the 8 , i'd go 8. If I could afford the big engine glitzy TT with a stick and I had a ton of money i'd go TT. But i'd get rid of it when the warranty expires or extend it...
I feel like i'm driving more of a sports car in the 8 than the TT was but not compared to the new TT...Good Luck with your selection.
