Selling my 2004 AT RX8 and buying a MT. After much deliberation (not really). I have decided to sell my AT RX8 and get a 6spd. The AT just does not have any power. It handles great and everything, but if I'm going to pay high insurance and car payments, not to mention paying for the gas, I'm going to have something that performs as good as it looks. Hopefully, I'll find someone to buy it. Has anyone else done this? If so, how long did it take you to sell the car? I have found a GT 6spd for a great price and I don't think it'll be there for long. If anyone has any good tips for selling the car, it would be greatly appreciated.

If that 6spd gets sold, I say take your time. They keep coming and going.

Yeah, in general you can get a good deal on either version of the car. Prepare to lose money on the deal of course.

You wouldn't be the first. I did a dumb mistake by buying an Auto when I first bought the RX8. After a couple months I was back in there signing papers for a Manual. Much better, glad to hear you're coming over to the other side.

That may be the best "modification" you can make to the car! I had the AT for ~5 months before trading it in for the MT for simlar reasons. At the time, with all the rebates and deals going on, I didn't lose very much at all on the deal. Good luck

Good job. Another one right here. Took me over a year to trade though. lol. Selling the car privately will yield more profit, but also the hassle and time. If your willing, I say just wait and try to sell it privately. Our cars come and go at the dealer lots. For me, I traded at dealer, and two days later... someone bought my automatic.

This car was meant to be driven with MT... It almost seems pointless to get it in AT, unless you realllly love the car and just dont care about speed.

I just bought mine 2 weeks ago, and in Miami you can find at least 5 MTs for sale at any given time, and if youre a good buyer, you can get a sick deal.
I got 8k off msrp on a "Used" 05 with 2k miles. It was a test drive car, so Im the first owner.

My best advice is dont be hastey... shop around. Dont fall in love with the first MT you drive. I would never buy a car unless I tuely felt like I was getting a good deal.
Other than that, enjoy your 6speed when you get it! You're gunna see the 8 is a whole different monster with those last 2k rpms.

I called about the GT 6spd mentioned above and the guy has already sold it. It had 19k miles and he was asking only $21,900. It's ok though, because I've already found another one with the appearance package, 24,900 miles for $22,750. I plan on selling mine privately for the pay-off. Hopefully it'll sell within a week. I can't wait to hit the road with an MT and burn some rubber.

Good choice man. I had my auto for about 3 months until I couldn't take it any more, then I just had to get a 6spd. I lost about 2k on the deal. But it makes up for it man, I did it and will not look back. I found my 6spd with 19k for 19800.

Definitely a smart move. I could not imagine owning and auto RX8, unless I was purely into looks, and not performance, or I was afraid to drive stick shift. There are a lot of auto RX8s out there, and most owners probably never have been on this forum. I still think the auto version is a good thing though, because it allows car to be owned and enjoyed by everyone, not just enthusiasts. Some of us just can't grasp the idea of a car looking this hot, and performing that poorly. I am one of those people. Cut your losses, and make up for lost time. Enjoy!!

When I read posts like this I sometimes wonder how many buyers were mislead by their salesman. When I was shopping for my 8 the salesman showed me an '04 auto and an '04 MT. Both on sale. He told me that both cars were identical, except for the transmissions and Nav package (the auto had the Nav option). He even went so far as to tell both 8's had exactly the same engine. Well, I had already done quite a bit of reading on the subject and I knew better. I didn't argue with the salesman. I just picked out the 8 that I wanted and drove home, shifting gears.

How can a salesman mislead you on whether to get a 4 At or a 6 MT. First off anyone who buys an automatic sports has pink hamster nuts and if you buy an automatic sports car with 40 less horsepower, 2 less gears, 2 less ports, and 1500 less RPM's you have no brain either.

That was kinda harsh man. Sometimes the situation doesn't present itself for a person to make that decision, it could have been financial issues, can't drive manual, spouse has to drive to car too. It could be anything so before you bash everybody for not buying a maual, stop and think it could be a very legit reason.

There are legitimate reasons for people to buy the auto version, even if you don't understand the reasons. No matter what your opinion may be, this forum does NOT tolerate attacks and insults on owners of automatic trans RX-8s - which that post definitely was. You should be able to find ways to express your opinions without insulting or attacking the owners of the vehicles.

Please do NOT post like that again - that's an official warning. The next time you post an insult or personal attack, you'll be banned for 3 days.

Regards,
Gordon

High insurance? Rx8 has relatively low premiums for such a new car.. I pay less than I paid for my 2001 Alero I traded in for the 8.

I have high risk insurance due to several traffic violations, hence the high insurance premium. Also, the reason I got the auto is because I had a trade-in, the trade-in value on the truck I had was $17,500 and the trade in on the RX8 is over $20,000. The dealer traded title for title. I figured I'd just get the Auto RX8 and if I didn't like it I would at least have a few more thousand to work with on a trade-in for a 6spd.
