Hm, I also used to own an IS300 and I found it to be a great car for what it is. These two cars are created for very different purposes though. Not really sure why the IS300 guys haven't brought this up, but the IS is more of a sedan with some luxury and sport on the side, and the RX8 is more of a sports car with a bit of luxury and sedan on the side. Sure I enjoy the RX8 more - it's just more fun to drive, but the IS was a bit more comfortable and it was nice having the extra space on occasion.

My friend has an IS3000. He's contemplating getting rid of it for a used 8. Funny how he always wants to drive my car... :D

2) Lack of power and you chose RX-8 ?? (Hope you got the manual one, even so, manual Rx-8 is slow as hell and you literally feel no power/torque unless you rev at 6500rpm or higher). LoL.. Stock to stock RX-8 > IS300?? LoL, the other people probably just arent interested in your RX-8, ever think about that? Especially when your car appears to be a stock one.
Funny he should mention that. It's the only argument that he makes that's not nitpicking the original paragraph or talking about custom parts, so I'll go ahead and settle it. My stock 8 is about half a second faster than my stock IS300. I'm not a good drag racer by any means, but I think comparing the same driver under similar conditions (both ran in cool weather) is a pretty good gauge of which car is faster. I actually had more experience driving the IS300 when I ran it and I made more runs with it than I have in my 8. It's definitely NOT faster.

Also, interest has also been pretty high in people trying to race my 8 - lots of revving at lights and ricer fly-bys while driving around. I hardly think that means they're disinterested. My IS, on the other hand, hardly ever got any attention from anyone but other IS300s (and even they typically ignored it).

Even if you never intended to go and start a car war, bashing one's ride on a site dedicated to one's ride is never a safe practice. You didn't honestly think they could give half a rat's *** that you traded in an IS300 for an 8 did you?? Same thing would happen here if someone traded in their 8 and returned to tell all of us how inferior our car is to their new car. Mods would lock it out in under 10 minutes... With that said, enjoy your 8 and stop picking fights with the Lexus drivers

That reminds me today i was at work at office max, and i'm 19. And this car salesmen comes in looking for his credit card that he left behind the other day, so he thought. Anyways he throws his business card on the table and says my name is blank blank. After we didn't find it he starts walking out and i say "did you want your business card back" he says no drop by and pick up an IS300. I was like "nah i have an rx8 outside" and he said quote on qoute "Oh i can't compete with that, those are really nice cars" and leaves. It was really funny.

Those Lexus guys sound a lot like RSX guys talking about street kills and such. i would think that they are a more mature crowd (seeing as that the IS300 is more of a family man car). It's funny how the uninformed think. One guy saying that the Renesis falls apart after a few thousand miles??? Another saying he traded 5 RX8's in??? That moron must have been trading in the same car 5 times.

Whatever ... you tried giving a fair comparison and they rejected it. Well, here's extending a warm welcome to the land of Wankel.

yet again two completely different cars.
those that gave their opinions about how our 8s our slow and that they burned other 8s, just don't understand the "street race" issue. Some people would never put out their lives fully, never knoe what can happen on the streets. and we all knoe how much we care for our cars.
my cousin has an IS300 and though ive never gone to see him with my 8, he has told me about his friend having an 8 that they traded in because it was crapped out too many problems. The rx8 has problems, but nothing greater than how much we love our cars. what separates us and them is the dedication we have to stick with our cars.
As far as power goes, its nothing without the driver. And the control we have on our cars is no problem. Sure the IS is nice, but i wouldn't bash the rx8 when comparing.
My point: different, so lets keep it that way
- i think i just gave pointless information - :D

I too am a former IS300 owner. I liked the IS rock solid quality and I did get treated like a king at the dealer when I took it in for service. I traded it for the 8 because I wanted a real sports car again and the IS is a sport sedan. I do not regret it one bit.

It's all a matter of opinion, my friend drives an IS300. I personally think it's not very nice for the money. On the other hand i'm sure others feel the same way of my car. The fact is people don't know what they're talking about when they write stuff like "DEFINITELY unreliable" or "engines shatting out on a few thousand miles", which just shows the IQ of a lot of people who post on a lot of these forums. Frankly i think some of these guys forgot to think before they tried to talk the talk.

Also my friend has had problems with his IS300

Yeah, ISs are ok--but those dudes over there were gettin hot! The IS300 faster than an RX8? I'm glad that at least some of those cats injected some reality into their cohorts. The IS was never a major player anyway--it could have had at least 240HP, especially since its the same engine as in the GS300 and ES300. They could have pushed it up to IS330 for at least the last run of the current generation.

Agh, I'm glad I got an RX8. Aside from being faster and sharper handling, apparently our cars come stock with better grammar. Most of those posts over there are downright hard to read.

That's a trip. I also like the IS300s (although, not a fan at all of the new ones--ugh) but wasn't aware of any street performance comparisons until I just read that thread. I still don't know where they were coming from with some of their critiques of the 8. Whatever makes them feel better, though.

especially since its the same engine as in the GS300
The IS has a straight 6 not a V6 and that may be why they didn't use the engine from the ES or GS.

Just an opinion here...but what makes you think that board gives two rat's asses about what your view on the two cars is. You 'had' to know that was going to stir up trouble. And linking to THIS board? Are you in the defense industry - hoping for a FLAME WAR or something?

Geesh.

Here's one great truth of the Internet:

"Nobody really cares what your opinion is."

I think he works at a dealership and was saying 5 different people traded in their 8's at his dealership.

I agree.. different strokes, 2 totally different cars.

The GS uses the same inline-6 as the IS. Only the ES and RX use the V-6.

Hahaha, it's ok, you don't bring the average down too badly. I'll let it slide for now :p At least I can read through it first shot and I don't have to keep going back to figure out what you're trying to say - that's the only time I'll turn into the English ****.

You are correct.. The HP difference between them is 5hp 215 for the IS and 220 for the GS The Torque difference is 2lb-ft, 218lb-ft for the IS and 220lb-ft for the GS. Not that much of a difference.

the is300 is a pretty cool car...in comparing speed obviously the 8 is faster...i'm not gonna post any killing threads but it's pretty dam obvious...the rear seats in the is300 are smaller than the 8...me personally i would not purchase the is300...

I loved my IS. It really is ridiculous to compare the 8 with the IS. A better comparison would be the IS and the 3 series BMW. I chose the IS over the BMW because of the reliability my friend had a 330 and it seemed like it was in the shop every 2 weeks. I can see comparing the 8 to the Z or the g35 coupe.

I can't. Even though it's probably the most common comparison, I think the Z would be better compared to the Mustang or some similar car--compare muscle to muscle, not muscle to finesse.
