Well the subject says it all...
Last night I was leaving a friends when my back tire went over the curb between the edge of the sidewalk and the street. It didn't seem to hit very hard. I started heading towards home when I saw the rear winshield looked like it had water drops all over it. When the wern't going away I started to wonder what it was. After a while it came to me that it might be broken. So when I got home I looked... and surely enough it was.
I didn't think that going over a bump the size I did would brake the whole window.... I've even gone over a few speed bumps harder than I hit that curb it the window was ok. I am very lucky that I had that window tinted because that's about all thats holding those pieces from falling ALL in the back seat of my car. Thank goodness it didn't fall in while I was driving.
So anyways I'm going to call up the dealer in the morning and see what / if anything they can do. I'll post a few pics below to show what the window looks like.

It could have been caused by the rapid flexing of the body structure caused by the sudden jolt of hitting the curb. The rear window is technicly part of the body structure and took the brunt of the impact. The body is pretty rigid and the weak point in the structure is at the opening of the back light. The glass did not flex as well as the body and thus shattered. Unless you were the victim of a drive by or something. I would check out you rear suspension and wheels for signs or collateral damage!

IS that the new crinkle tinting look?
Really sorry about that happening to your 8. You must have just hit it in the right way to do such as that. It had to actually flex the frame and body to put that much pressure on it. I hope you can get it taken care of without a lot of expense and even worse, time waiting on a new one.

Wonder if the installation of the tint might have been contributory? When they cut the tint to size maybe they scored the glass. It would be just like a glass cutter. Score the glass and apply pressure to break it along the score. Never heard of this happening in a car but maybe?

Any other details.... like were you drinking that night?
For it to jump the curb, you must have backed up pretty fast. I don't think it would have jumped the curb if you were backing up slower than 10mph.
I have noticed that your able to see the sharp edges of the rear glass near the bottom. That's different from other cars.

That sucks.....sorry about that. Where were you parked?? Like at a bar? Are you sure though it wasn't popped before you got in the car? Only reason I ask is cause it looks exactly like when you take a piece of porcelean from a spark plug and pop a window......it shatters like that?? (Not that I would know....

After further looking at my shattered glass the next morning... I noticed what looks like a dent in the side around the edge of the glass. I also noticed that there was a crack pattern around that dent. It looks as though a screwdriver was pushed into the side of the glass in an attempt to pry in to it. I've come to the conclusion that someone tried to break in via the back window and when I hit the curb that cause the already cracked portion to shatter. You may ask why someone would try to break in via the back window however if you think about it, it's the easiest to get in. The side windows are too small to crawl in. The front winsheild has the steering wheel and dash in the way, and well the back doesn't have much it the way at all. Below is the picture of what i'm pretty sure is the dent from the "screwdriver" . Also if you look above the green arrow there's another scratch in the paint which could also be from a screwdriver hitting it while attempting to pry into the glass. What's this look like to you guys?
I took the car to dealer and they can't do anything. Insurance will take care of it except the deductable. No auto-glass shops in FL have this glass. As a matter of fact nobody does. Due to the shortage of glass there's no "extra" glass because all the new glass goes right on the new 8's. All delaerships have it backordered. So basically the soonest I'm getting this fixed is Wed. cause I'm having them overnight the glass. I hope it's not too too messy when they install the new glass. Take a look at the pics below.

.......or you may have been the victim of a drive by! It (the dent) also looks suspiciously like the mark left by a hi-power pellet rifle! It looks like someone meant to hit the window and got it on a ricochet.

BINGO! I think Rotary Nut just won the prize. That is exactly what that looks like. I would say you got hit by a drive by. I have some experience with forensics and that mark looks like a pellet gun/maybe even a .22 short.

I so sry to see that, Drive by with a pellet gun seems to be really popular. Here in utah it happens to on average 20 - 50 cars and several bussinesses, I happens almost nightly. I will kill anyone that attemps to touch my 8.

hm.... thanks for the input... i guess it could be. where the car was parked it wouldn't be hard to hit with a pellet gun. i guess it's good i didn't back it in or else they would have aimed for the front winsheild (if that's what it was). that makes more sense than my screwdriver theory cause that second scratch in the paint could be another shot they took @ the car and missed. duno ... guess i'll never know what happened.
