Unhappy Shes gone.

It was a sad day yesterday. it snowed out of nowhere here in Halifax (The day the car was supposed to go to storage), was warming the car up to take her there and while I was in the house all I hear is a loud THUD, I knew then and there it was all over.. I look outside and this cars driving away and I realized he wasn't stopping, I ran straight out the house chasing the car down on foot (I caught up believe it or not) tried to open his door and he slammed straight into the stop sign, got him out the car and made him wait till the cops came..

I doubt insurance will fix it, most likely write it off (don't want an accident on my title either way), The sad part is that i just installed BHR coils 3 days ago.. moved my battery to the trunk, and redid most of the engine bay.. anyway **** happens. Will most likely sell the BHR coils and parts i know are popular, so keep your eye out.

Honestly? You have a whole winter to fix it. Some minor bodywork will fix it. A rear light, bumper, fender and trunk can be had on same color from a part out for less than $300.

Wow that sucks, sorry to see that. At least you caught the guy.

RX-8's don't value very high in terms of book value so I can see them totaling it, though I would at least ask for a quote from a good body shop.

I thought about it, but the pictures don't do it justice, its a lot worse than you think, and if I do decide to fix it insurance won't be covering that it would be out of my pocket. My plan is though to have them write it off and buy it back from copart for like 1000$ lol have a nice winter project.

Yeah I'm waiting to find out how much they're going to give me, hopefully its not a stupid number.

I have zero tolerance for people who try to run from the destruction they create (and for drunk people who decide to drive).

Similar story to yours - it was on a brand new Mazda 626 GT parked on a busy one-way overnight - drunk slammed into the back. Lucky for me that the person was so drunk he passed out in the car and the police had him in jail. End of story I kept/repaired the 626 until it was totaled by another drunk (slammed into the back head on on I-75 during a major storm.) I was out of the car at the time talking to the person ahead of me - she was the last to hit the car ahead of her - a 11-car pileup ahead of me. Car was idling in the HS lane and all I heard was screech and B A M. Turned around to see my SO walking up the shoulder of the highway - had she been in the car she'd be dead. GT RIP....I then purchased an Integra GS-R that I had for a very long time.

Few years later a drunk came down our street's hill and slammed into our rock wall along the driveway leading to our tuck-under garage (barely missing that GS-R). He was so drunk that he kept trying to crawl/walk away from the scene. We taunted him until the police arrived. (He had just finished his shift at UPS - and had a few drinks with his co-workers...then tried to drive home).

Sorry for your loss. It does look like it could be fixed though. Would need a bumper, trunk, tail light and fender. Do any real damage mechanically?

I think its the rear subframe thats bent? not entirely sure, but the rear suspension is toast, it does not look like it in the picture but the rim is on a slant and is slightly turned. It is definitely fixable though, i am planning to buy it back from copart once its sent here but fixing it myself will have me paying for it out of pocket, insurance will not fix that at all.

Wow, I also developed a zero tolerance for people who try to run away, this is not the first time this happens to me. Some people honestly just don't realize how much work goes into these cars, if i hadn't caught the guy i honestly have no clue what i would've done.

People like these are why I avoid long-term/overnight street parking.

Curious to know what did the douchebag say for an excuse to drive off. Glad you brought some justice to this. Sorry for your loss. Looks like it's fixable.

He said he panicked and just didn't know what to do, and that it was snowy he wanted to get out the way before another car comes and slides... he was a guy in his forties and had a baby seat in the back and for some reason I just felt bad and didn't tell the cops anything about him running and me chasing him, he would've lost his license for 2 years and had a court date, looks like he has enough on his plate already.

Sometimes I'm just a little too nice lol.

You did the right thing. People make bad choices all the time and the end outcome wouldn’t have changed for you either way. Would have just caused him more headaches. Sucks when it happens but didn’t sound like the guys was trying to be a jerk.
Good for you

Just be careful. Someone might bid you higher than $1000. Also, the car may receive more damage at copart. Good luck keep us posted!

No, you have a good & worthy heart. I’m sorry for your loss, but sometimes what we perceive to be negative at the time works out for the better in the end. It may have saved you from a lot of aggravation in the future ...

Dam how do you panic and drive away. I agree you are too nice and as someone else said a good heart. But this might have been the 10th time he has done this without any responsibility. I dont understand the point of insurance. This car is rare to me and for someone to destroy one with a good title and no accidents is not fair. You may never find another in this kind of condition. Sorry i just dont buy the fact this guy panic and drove away. I believe he made a mistake and said f you i m out. People dont pay attention he probly was on his phone when he hit your car.

I agree, his car is also totaled and his insurance won't cover it, hopefully he learned his lesson that way atleast.
