But come on, you own an RX8
Exactly. The EPA mileage sticker was right there on the window. As was the cool "Hummmm" from under the hood.

I've got less than 2000 miles on mine (just had it a month) and my mileage is about 1 mpg below the EPA numbers. Once broken in, I expect the gas mileage to drop from that.

But gas cost will be balanced by the money I won't have to spend on roller coasters or bungee jumping. Like you said, I own an RX8! :-)

No wonder I get worse mileage than most of you.......you all drive this car like some bitches. This car revs to 9,000RPM people!!!!! If you wanted to shift at 3,000rpm you should have bought a different car. The RX8 is a dog under 5,000 rpm and I couldn't imagine shifting under that point unless stuck in traffic.

BTW, I recently switched to 89 octane and I've added about 20 miles to the fuel light. I used to get 240miles till the light and now I get 260miles to the light.......and no difference in performance.

Drive your car people!!!!! 1 redline a day is just a tease.......you should be getting a shift beep on every 2-3 shift I would say the 3-4 shift also but some of you are not comfortable driving triple digit speeds.

Or maybe some of us would like to keep our driver's licences/clean driving records.

Spirited driving is one thing, regular triple digits on public roads is asking for trouble, and besides... you don't need to be going over a buck to hang the tail out in some twisties

I shift between 3500-4000 rpm which seems about right. I also use 87 octane with no problem for daily driving. Now if I'm going over 6000 rpm racing around with buddies then I put premium (92 in Oregon) to get back any slight performance decrease (and reduce chances of knocking). I average around 20-22 mpg on 50/50 city/highway driving.

I suspect most 8 owners freely rev the engine for the driving pleasure it brings—but some people have no choice but to save money wherever they can, and feel good knowing they're spending less on fuel getting from point A to point B than you do. Some redline it when they need to get up to speed fast and shift below 3K when there's no one behind 'em. For some, it's almost a little game to see how little fuel they can use (I hear many hybrid owners enjoy doing this, too.) All of these people enjoy the sexiness, the appearance, the interior, the uniqueness and many of the "little things" there are to like about the 8 probably as much—if not more—than you do. Sure, you could argue that economy minded people should be driving a Prius or a Yaris, but the truth is it's nice that people can buy an 8 and drive it however the hell they please. That's the American way.

Yeah... I tried it too the whole 3000K thing and at that point I decided if I'm looking to save gas, I'll drive my wife's car...
And who sais you have to be in Tripple digits to be having fun? 80 seems pretty fast to me when you are on roads posted for 45 and the corner yellow signs say 25... LOL...
All in all I am a very responcible driver... I've also gotten stopped more often in my Wife's sedan ten in my 8. Knock on wood. Better brakes... hee he...
Anyway, no one is saying to be stupid about your driving... But shifting at 3K going from first to second, is just pathetic... you really aren't enjoying the car's potential.

Drive hard!! Not stupid...
