Shifting gears

Shifting gears
I saw/ heard on a review video for the rx-8, that a censor in the car beeps when the driver needs to shift gears. is this true? or is it only at high rpms?
i am still learning manual transmission driving.

at 8500 RPMs it does beep to warn you that you are about to redline. And trust me, you know the beep when you hear it
but nah, you definately have to use your ears/tachometer to know when to shift.
Good luck learning. It's not hard at all, you'll get it in no time.

You shift at redline while flooring it if you want to accelerate as much as you can. In normal driving, you would typically shift around 3000-3500 RPMs in the rx-8 to go easy on the engine and save fuel.

I have a use 04 and I've hit 9k rpms looking for the beep but it never came so I just shifted and figured the 04 didnt have the feature or something... should I get it checked out? or did the 04 not have the beep

The striped zone and red zone are different in manual/automatic.
manual=(sz 8.5-9)(rz 9-10)
auto= (sz 7.5) (rz 7.5-9)
the beeping starts in the striped zone. info from the manual so correct me if i'm wrong.

six speed it goes off at 9k, you may or may not hear it. lots of noise going on then. the fuel cutout hits a bit above 9.5k you will not miss that.
i think the beep should be louder.

I used to strongly agree that the beeper should be louder, now I only weakly agree. I've found that my ear has learned where to look for it, so now even with the stereo pretty loud I can still hear it.

You should be well aware that your getting into the 8.5k RPM range without a redline alarm to remind you. I think its a really cool little feature, and a evil pleasure I like to seek every now and then, but its no replacement for paying attention to your tach.
Also, I have hit redline with my stereo blasting, and although I didnt hear the BEEP, I saw the red light come up on the tach. Both things together make for a damn good redline alarm. A def. +1 for mazda on that.
As for the starter of this thread, GL learning manny, this is a great car to get your feet wet in.

i still wish the buzzer in the eight could have been like the buzzer in the SA/FB. You couldn't miss it...not over road noise, wind noise, radio, helmet. you knew when it went off.

Look at your tach when you hit 8.5k and a red light comes on along with the BEEP just below the red part of the tach band I believe.
Kinda obvious you rely on the beep based on your post, not a good idea, as many people have said, you can miss it.

With the stock exhaust it is easy to not hear when to shift if someone next to you is tearing up their tires. So that fuel cutoff is really noticable when the nose drops back down.
I am definitely going to get a light so I don't have to stare at the tach. The '04's don't have a light on the dash to shift.
