I'm not really seeing what the big deal is... now if that rotary was supercharged, then that would be another story!

I don't know about evolution. Wonder what the Japanese word for "slight aesthetic modification" is.

We saw the Shinka at the LA Auto show a couple weeks ago. I wonder how the fire at the factory will affect its availability? As far as I know there aren't any on the dealers' lots yet.

lmao...the black cherry is a bad *** color, but looks just black until the sunlight hits it. even then you have to look twice to catch the "cherry" color.

Yeah. they have the same Black Cherry in the miata with the parchment color leather. we have one here. it is a very dark color and doesn't look purple at all.

Well the site is under maintenance right now, but that car isn't called "Shinka" in Japan. It's the Sport Prestige Limited. See for yourself... http://www.rx-8.mazda.co.jp/limited/sport_prestige/

Yeah, I thought it looked pretty nice at the LA Auto show. I was looking around for the chrome rotary symbol on the headrest (we have a brushed aluminum), but Rosenthal (and other dealers would probably want more) had them for $420 per seat !!! That (2) would be more than it cost to chrome my rims.

the shinka is a stinka ...

... sorry, couldn't stop myself.

IMO, nothing more than fluff. pretty fluff, but still fluff. all cosmetic plus the limited slip diff and larger brakes. both are already standard on the 6 speed. this special edition crap is nothing more than what they do year after year with the miata. if i were in the market for an "evolutionary" '8, i'd wait for the mazdaspeed version .... zoom zoom.

why do I see such bitterness here?? you have to admit that if someone is in the market for a top of the line 8 this is the one to get! why is a 8 with some special cosmetic upgrades hated on??.........hmmm thats like not wanting people to get the MS bodykit on a brand new 8 because its an upgrade from the regular body.

It's hate on my part. I think it devalues the brand. All showy glam bells and whistles on a bone fide 50/50 top handling, top braking, excellent performing pure sports car. Drags the car down and sends the impression to the car buying public that Mazda are having trouble shifting them off the lot. Lets add a few bits of chrome and a showy leather interior as a sweetener to move this boat anchor off my lot.

Just my opinion. I hate it. If it was just a new colour I'd be fine with it, not that I like the colour.

Gomez.

the Shinka edition isnt so bad.
it comes with many upgrades, yes mostly cosmetic (and who doesnt want their car to be unique, i know many of you have modified your 8 in some way)..but also some chassis too which will make it handle a bit better.
its doesnt even cost that much more compared to the GT...tis only $1500 more.

i think the interior alone is worth that.

Are we still talking about RX-8s? 'Cause it sounds like you're talking about Miatas ... :p

ba ba bah b.... uh did you say something? sorry, I was distracted by your avatar.....

Do Miata's have a 50/50 weight distribution? I suppose being a two door drop top they meet a truer definition of what is a "pure sports" car , I agree.

It's not like the paint is a new thing either. Either the '96 or '97 (can't remember which) Mustang Cobra (probably a special edition or some such) had the same paint. 5 years ago I was asked my opinion about the same color shifting paint during the development of some Carrera ski helmets. It's been around for a while. Besides, my Velocity Red paint shifts colors too. Sort of.

Bottom line, if you like it and want it, go for it! I'm happy with my car.
