I have had the same debate numerous times before...it comes down to what will suit you best and if you are modding what goals do you have in mind. I like the fact that is boosted already, handling is probably hands down the best in its class, the newer ones handle even better, its a hatch so plenty of room and 350whp+ its easy. Its still a step down from the RX-8 in looks/handling and performance overall as you modify....its up to you though, test drive it and find out what it does for you...i have and i can tell you they are FUN!

Smoking turbos among other things. They're reliable, but they still have they're own issues. It's a high hp, turbo, front wheel drive car. ****'s gonna break.
They're nice cars, don't get me wrong. Almost bought one for my wife as a daily, but she couldn't get over the price and fell in love with a land rover freelander instead. Talk about problems

Oh it's a great car. Mine had 300 hp and 300ft/lbs and would dust anything less then 45k. Great in a straight line, mad torque steer and on two seperate occaisions i saw 155mph.
But that much power in front wheel drive leaves you feeling disconnected from the road, body roll is better then most cars but still noticable and oversteer slows you way down in the corners.
It's still the best FWD car i've ever driven (haven't driven the Focus RS yet) but I feel I 'graduated' to the Rx8. Better handling, better power delievery, better looks, more unique.
The Rx8 is a grownups car. The Speed3 is what I impressed Civic and Golf owners with.

Like everyone else says depends on your driving preference. I traded my Speed 3 for my RX-8. I do miss the neck snapping torque but love my rwd more.

if it matters much... i had a 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 and HATED it... it seemed neat for the quick test drive but wow... i had it for about 4k miles and traded it....not sure what made me hate it so much but FWD, too small for my kids friends to fit in, it really wasn't all that fast, etc... I had traded in my 2008 Trailblazer SS and luckily the dealership still had it so i lost my *** and traded back for my trailblazer...lol.... goodluck.... My RX8 is way more fun than that POS was.
