3rd preorder series

I am not saying that. The PR for Mazda said 1st preorders done Jan 13th should be delivered June - August; 2nd preorders July-Sept; 3rd Aug-Oct. From everything I've seen (engine production started late Jan, car production for Japan mid Feb, stated to start for US mid-March) those timelines are going to be fairly close to reality.

Dealers are exaggerating the potential wait

Don't believe they hype about having to wait until the end of the year. Mazda is selling these cars to be profitable, not exclusive. There was similar speculation during pre-ordering for the 350Z. Sure they were hard to come by early on, but I saw 5-6 on the lot when I drove by the Nissan Dealer today.

I believe it means, you will buy the car if you like the test drive and you can get the necessary financing.

This is how things seem to be working here by me:

Mazda developed the program to allow buyers to order the cars in the color/option choices they desired. HOWEVER, the dealers did have the option of pre-ordering the cars themselves. EVERY dealer around here I've talked to has already used their pre-orders, they ordered their entire allocation as soon as they got it in colors they thought would be desirable. This meant that me wanting a color that most dealers did not find desirable led me on a goose chase to either find a dealer who had an allocation spot left, or find a dealer who pre-ordered a winning blue GT. Luckily I found the second, as they pre-ordered the car early on and this meant that if I take this car, I'll get it in July time frame because they pre-ordered early January.

So, here's how I see it P00Man. Depending on your intended color and option package, you can either find a dealer that has already pre-ordered a car configured like you want it and take ownership (put a deposit) on that allocated slot. At that point you will get the car based on when they ordered that slot (and if it is anything like dealers around here, they did it early January and you'll see the car around July timeframe). HOWEVER, if no dealer has a car the way you want it pre-ordered already, you will have to find one that has an allocation left for you to put in an order. At this point, that'll probably be difficult, and even if you do find one, you'll be waiting until October timeframe for the car, as pre-orders placed in the March time frame are sleighted for October delivery.

My end advice P00Man...find a dealer that has already pre-ordered the car as part of their initial allocation the way you want it. If you want a hot color (red, silver, titanium) you'll have no problem with the color...however I've found most dealers pre-ordered the cars loaded, so you may be forced into a loaded car if you don't want it like that. Otherwise you are waiting, and definately past July.

This is how I understand the program...hopefully I've made it clear to P00Man, and everyone else. Also, hopefully I'm right (but I typically understand things quite well, and I've called MANY dealers and Mazda to get this info.)
