Should I stay away from the 04's?

ok, so I decided to get a rx8 manual, but I wanna buy used. Am I better of staying away from the 04's? If the recall is performed, would that make the 04's a safe buy (assuming the car doesnt have any unusual problems)?

Or am I just better of going for a 05?

Thanks for the quick reply. do you know if the recall has any limitations if your a second owner? Is there any out-of-pocket expense?

since we have no idea where you are..

hard to answer..

if you are in the usa, a recall is a recall.. the warranty is good till the end. second owner just the same.

If there's a problem they'll contact you. Take care of problem , take yourcar and enjoy. If you can look in to the 06 many of the issues were taken care of.

I've had mine since Aug 03, and have had no serious problems at all. As long as it was maintained and the previous owner was taking care of recalls and needed service bulletins, you have nothing to worry about.

Ditto. Bought Roxy in August of 03. Minor TSB / Recalls all handled by Mazda and loaner car every time.

Compare this to my Acura CL-S I had before (and the Wife's TL-S) and we collectively went through 5 transmissions and had to fight Acura for everything.

fought with Honda you mean

Anyway to the OP, it really depends

For a used car, a 05 could be worst than 04, if the original owner did not take care of his/her car.

good way to tell is that, try to get the dealership to pull the TSB record of the car.

04 RX8 bought in November of 03 and has been flawless. Have taken it in for the recalls, but beyond that, only routine maintenance.

remember 04-06 RX-8's also have the extended powertrain warranty per the emissions recall (5 years / 60,000 miles)

i wouldn't trade my '04 for any other years, well maybe an '07 Stormy Blue Mica, so sexy

I am the second owner of an 2004 GT manual. The car has all the recalls done, and I have had no problem since my purchase. I wouldn't say "stay away from 04" to anybody, since I am actually glued to it. lol

Thanks for your inputs guys. I hope to be a long term member here, which is why I was concerned.

How do I find out if all the recalls are done? Do I take the vin# to the dealer or something?

If not done, can I just take it to the dealer and they'll give me a loaner car no cost to me?

Im just trying to think of every senario so Im prepared and know exactly what I need to do, and what to check for, when buying a used 04.

I bought an 04 back in October with 15,075mi on her and took her in to make sure that all the recalls had been done. There were no problems with being the second owner. I now have over 40k miles on her with no issues so far, I did have the airbag light come on but I wiggled the plug under the passengers seat and everything started working again. As long as you put the time in to take care of them they will go and go. I have an 83 RX-7 with 236K on her and she is still going strong.

I bought a used '04 MT GT with 22500 miles, I knew about the recalls and a week after I bought it, the dealer sent me a recall notice to bring it in and get check out; no problems.

i'm the 2nd owner of an '04 and i thought you had to qualify for the extended warranty? i thought something in your something or such and such had to be replaced in order to get the extended warranty. am i wrong? it's veyr possible but just ot be sure...

The warranty, extended or not, follows the car and not the owner. Yes you are covered.
