If the cash is coming from the manufacturer, it should come off after the agreed upon price. Dealers just try to sneak it in cuz they are shady.

Get price quotes and then if you're not happy go back to them with what you want to pay and walk away if you don't want to pay it. Also end of the month is good. You're in Sacramento - you're within easy driving distance of SF Bay Area and other Central Valley dealers.

Trade in? Or selling old car on Craigslist?
I'm paying cash. I sold my old car on Craigslist and I have $30k I can spend (but I would really like to spend less than that )

Yes, I am very close to many dealers. However, there are only a handful of 8s that I have come across that have everything I want and I think the dealers know this.

Do not spend $30,000 on a new RX8.

You can get brand new R3's for that price.

I suggest you buy used (08-09) with very low mileage and with an intact warranty. The most you should spend should be $25,000 out the door.

Are you including the $2500 cash back in that price of $25,000?

if I had that kind of money I would buy 06 with some miles on it for 15,000-18,000, and buy a turbo/supercharger kit, and supporting goodys and have one fast rx-8!!!!

Just to add to the used debate, RX-8 resale is like a big cliff the minute it drives off the lot. But the 09's do have the updated styling. Not sure if there are any used ones on the market now.

Keep looking and you'll come across a good deal I'm sure. I got my car less than one-year old with 12K miles for $19K OTD from a private seller and its a GT. It was a near steal.

Don't even bother with a '10. It's virtually unchanged from the '09s. You should be able to pick up an '09 for invoice minus another 4k for the rebate no problem. Wait a little longer the the rebate may even get bigger.

KrazyKarl, I'm also in CA and just bought a 09 RX8 R3. With the rebate, I paid $25K + tax + license.

Just keep looking for the really good deals.

Totally agree. There is a 09 R3 that has been at my local dealer for months upon end. Bargain hard if you buy an 09. Do not pay more than invoice then subtract rebate.

I regret to inform the RX-8 community that I have opted to purchase a 2010 Mustang GT Premium instead of an 8. (I know, I know...)

There are a few reasons. One is that the '09 RX-8 I wanted is located near Los Angeles and I'm located near Sacramento. The dealer has 2 basically identical 8s that I would have purchased. The sales manager was a jerk. He wasn't coming down on the price. (He thinks he can still make $$ on a 16 month old vehicle). I eventually said okay and we agreed on a price. However, he refused to email me or otherwise send me a written quote to confirm the price. There is no way I'm buying a plane ticket to LA without confirmation on what I'm paying!

He then proceeded to insinuate that I was somehow trying to screw him over. He said things like "I don't let people play games with my quotes." (with an attitude).

That is when I had to say goodbye to him and his dealership (Clippinger Mazda).

I have looked all over for an 8 that fit what I wanted...apparently there aren't any I looked into getting a '10, but I don't like the available colors.

The next reason is that my dad prefers I get a Mustang over an 8 and will be more receptive to helping me out a little on the payments.

So this is not goodbye...I'll still be lingering on the forums

Good luck everyone!

You will love it. I have a 2007 Shelby as my weekend Toy and am debating picking up an R3 for a Daily Driver. The new 2010's are very nice, what color??? Also the engine is basically bulletproof. Different car, but very nice.

I'm getting it in gray. I also got nav and the 3.73 gear ratio package. Yeah, I was very impressed with the handling and lack (well not total lack) of body roll during turns.
