Show me your premix kit
#51
A case lasts me about 9 months at 4oz. per tank fillup. I'll be going through a case more frequently as I'll be bumping up the intake on the premix, though. Lets say that the case is $85 and you go through it in 9 months. You're looking at spending under $10 a month. Go from ordering a grande soy no-foam latte to a tall americano (or drip) once a week and there you go.
I've ordered through Mazdatrix and they ship fairly quickly.

Yeah that math sounds good....
so I have another question that has been posed by a friend who is a design engineer for a major oil company... starts with an E ends with an N. (he is an electrical engineer not fuel based) if we are premixing x amount of oil into the fuel we would be effecting the flashpoint of the fuel. the whole point of 93 octane over 87 is an increased flash point to avoid preignition.... I wonder if premixing effects the flashpoint enough to use 87 instead of 93? anyone know enough about this to intellegently answer this question?

I just use the Idemitsu containers themselves; one empty for measuring and the other for housing the oil, no funnel need and fill up the empty one with the amount of oil you want to premix then fill it up some with gas to pre-premix it before tossing it in my tank 1/2 of filling up. Both containers are strapped in where the OEM tire inflation kit goes.
I'd be in if we get enough people, I'll buy a case of 12.

Done
Nice paranoid setup!

Do the slimline bottles fit just right to open the flap in the fuel door, or do you still have to hold it open with something else? Just don't have it all right in front of me to check it myself.
Just got my Rx8, and was going to get some Idemitsu anyway, but I do like the idea of having something professional looking to hold it all. Though, I'd prefer more of a box to replace the tire kit in the corner of the trunk, that looks similar to it, or something.

I took a bunch of pictures of how I made that thing, but I accidentally deleted all of them off my phone. It'd made out of the clear cover for a 150pk CD-R spindle, haha.

There's a flap in the fuel filler? If that's the case, mine's been missing since I bought the car two years ago. Makes me wonder now...

And about the cases of Idemitsu, how much is it gonna cost?
Edit: Just noticed York, heck yeah Shell!
Second Edit: I guess I was thinking about my Mx6, my Rx8 doesn't have that little flap. Makes things easier then, haha.

I wanted to provide an update to this thread. One thing that did not occur to me when I started this thread, is that the RX8's fuel filler does not have a flap in it. When I premixed my old rx-7s part of the purpose of the funnel was to hold the flapper open when you poured in the premix.
With the RX-8, and an idemitsu bottle, there is no need for anything other than the bottle itself. It is more than possible to poor it in without spilling a drop.

And yeah, I hadn't noticed it doesn't have the flap there until the other day. Shoot, it also doesn't have a little bracket to set the fuel cap on so it's not dangling either.. Ah well.
