Sick Of Rumors!

I don't know about you other RX-8 owners out there...But are any of you sick of hearing new rumors about their 8??

I have had my 8 since August and have over 6 grand on the odometer..and not a single mechanical issue to gripe about..

I know there are a ton of owners out there that are in the same boat..let me here your opinions!

I think much of what you call "rumors" are problems that you are fortunate not to have. I have the mysterious cycling a/c problem, but not the problem shifting to 2nd gear nor the low oil warning light. Yet I don't doubt others have those problems, and in fact those with the oil light problem are getting new oil sumps installed so obviously these are more than mere rumors.

The rumor I would like to hear is that Mazda (not some third party) will come out with an ECU fix to improve fuel consumption. In fact, there was such a rumor when we first got our cars but alas, I see no sign of it right now.

I have to say, that is the one I am most doubtfull of. Reason being, when they had the same issue with the Miata and offerd the free maintance and $500 deal...they never issued a ECU fix. I am almost resloved to the idea that if they could have done it leagaly and just issued a remap they would have done so. I also feel the 8 is running rich intential for safty reasons. At least for the first year. I have heard a lot of B.S and I have hear alot of "yeah..I can see that happening.." issues but I have yet to see any official documentation or a major recall by Mazda wich would mean that there arn't any major wide spread flaws with the 8 as of yet. But, I do belive there will be some bad apples in the bunch its inevitable..

Well, they did it for the MazdaSpeed Protege' just a month or two ago & it was wanting for a longer period of time than the 8 has been wanting. So, maybe it'll still happen. Mazda is notorious in not saying a darned thing even if it's good news. I guess they don't like to promise anything that they feel they don't have to. Go figure, but, I think it's still possible.

Oh don't get me wrong..I would love to have a re-map and all the HP and gas milage I can get from my 8.. But, I also know that they didn't offer the Protoge buyers any cash..and that's what keeps me skeptical about this. I don't want to get excited for something that may not happen...I will just get my Mazda Speed fly wheel and exhaust and as soon as RE. Amemiya puts out a wing I like...its mine..

Well, my rumor was we'd get the mpg back, not the power, and certainly not both. If you want power back I'd bet some 3rd party remapping will soon be available. I'm not a tuner and I'd hesitate to use 3rd party ECU remap, at least not during the warranty period. what did the Protege remapping do?

Amen.. No third party re-map for me. Also thats why I am waiting for the Mazda Speed tuning parts , they all will carry a factory warrenty and will get installed by Mazda. No disrespect to the tuner crowd. I just don't want to do anything that voids my warrenty or my free maintainence. But Re-Amemiya has been designing parts for the RX lines FC,FD and FE (RX8) so he is just as good as Mazda in my opinion. I will just cross my fingures and hope that all this comes true.

Oh and the Protoge re-mapping increased the power. You can read about in Rotory Tuner Magazine. (Wich looks great by the way)

I agree there are too many rumors, however, every time someone starts a new post like this, all the new members (or visitors who don't know much about the car) are immediately going to think "what rumors??" and start looking them up. Thereby perpetuating the very same rumors your trying to quash.

A better tack is to just ignore the threads where people are discussing the issues if you're not having the problems. The more you post about them, the more people will think about them.

Good point. Didn't think of it that way. Frustration just got the better of this happy 8 owner..and I knew there just had to be more perfectly satisfied owners out there.

Rumors that are true problems CAN turn into action by MNAO. Mazda a week or so ago DID release a fix for the A/C cycling. At my first service, that was one of my complaints, and so they installed a new H/AC controller and re-programming done at my dealer. Mechanic said it was a just released fix. Hard to tell now it is so cold, but I have warm (oops - cold) hopes for next summer!

Talk to your dealer's service dept.

Do you really think they would come out with a remap to improve gas mileage instead of increasing hp? From what I've read, that's not likely. Secondly, it would void warranty on the engine or big hunks of it. Third, a remap from Mazda would be free; what does a tuner charge? If my interest is in costs savings through improving mileage it will be offset from the cost of the remap. I would have to think long and hard, or wait till I'm around 50K miles and don't care anymore.

Right on point 8_wannabe. Mazda would offer a free re-map and it will be under warranty. The after market tunning parts would be good mabey even great. But unless you are filthy rich (wich you may be) it does not make sence to go and void a warrenty on a brand new car when the manufaturer is going to issure tunning parts with warrenties and fixes for defective parts.

Spin9K, is there a TSB out about this? If not, how do we reference the fix when talking to the dealer?

The remap for the MazdaSpeed Protege was because a lot of people were complaining about hesitation problems with the car. They even contacted mazda engineers about it and got some mazda employess that owned the car and were experiencing the same issue involved in it. The increase in power came as a by-product of fixing the hesitation problem (which was caused by the same super rich fuel maps in the car, but the turbo made things worse in terms of driveability).

For the record, I'm not. I'm a basic cheapskate and really rebelled against my wife getting a 323 a few years back. Not worth the money we paid for it. On the other hand, I view the '8 as a great value. I believe the car is worth $10K more than we paid.

Well, my 8 was 32k and some change..and people ask me why I didn't get a STI or a EVO...or a S200 for the most part and I am just like all those cars can't compare with the dollor to value of the 8..for utility style and performance. Okay the 2k nav system was a bit much..but who cares I have always wanted a car that can talk to me. And as soon as the Mazda speed stuff comes out...I will be spending that much more on upgrades..
