you know, i don't understand why people get so moody when someone asks a question....yea there may be ton's of threads on the subject or whatever but what's the harm in answering the question in YOUR own opinion and then stating that if they were looking for more info than what you provided they could search the board....Seriousley people need to chill out!....there is nothing wrong with posting a thread that has already been discussed!...cut the guy some slack!....

Agreed - sometimes, it's almost like there is a "thread posse" out there, just waiting to jump down someone's throat.

Overall, I think this is a GREAT forum, with lots of FRIENDLY, helpful, knowledgable folks.

People have already discussed the search "*****" relentless persecution of repeat thread posters. Next time, please use the search feature for more information on this issue.

In answer to you and the other "cut the newbies some slack" posts - what makes you think that the people who know the answers, and have already answered them DOZENS of times, have all the time in the world to answer the same question yet again? The answers are here already - in dozens of different threads - yet instead of searching a little bit for yourself, you'd prefer that someone ELSE spend the time to get you the answer.

From that viewpoint - your post seems pretty selfish, doesn't it? What happens is that people who don't mind being rude post "do a search, newbie", and also that the people who know the answers give up and just stop answering questions.

Here's the way I see it - on any automotive forum like this, new members have an obligation to search for answers to what are likely to be typical, common questions, before posting that question. In fact, IIRC, there's a forum rule along those exact lines.

To answer your question - you can get access to the Japanese ECU flashes if you wish to purchase the Mazda maintenance system hardware and software - but you probably have to buy a Mazda dealership to be allowed to do that.

No, the Japanese ECU flash has nothing to do with the 250 re-rated down to 238. It also has nothing to do with the 247 re-rated down to 238 issue (the North American RX-8 was never rated at 250 hp, that was just a pre-production estimate). The problem was with US EPA catalytic converter durability requirements being raised for the 2004 model year, and the RX-8's original 247 hp ECU tune running the cats too hot to last the required 120K miles. In order to lengthen the life of the cats, Mazda had to lower the exhaust temperature by richening the mixture at high rpm and full throttle openings (exactly where the hp rating is determined), which had a side consequence of lowering peak HP. Mazda will NOT ever be re-issuing that original ECU tune here, because they can NOT due to US government requirements.

Regards,
Gordon

Gord96BRG,

You obviousley did not understand a word of what i said. My whole point was that the earth is not going to stop if someone posts a question that (godforbid) has already been discussed....what bigger sin is there on the planet earth than posting a question without doing a search...Give me a break!

seriousley, what bothered me is that you guys chewed his head off for posting a question......and to answer your last statement and i quote "what if we don't have time to answer the question"...THEN DON'T ANSWER IT!

You act like the kid called you at work and asked you to stop working to answer his question....if you do not have time to answer the question...how did you find the question to begin with?...you found it because you were on the board right?....And if you are on the board it is because you are not pre-occupied doing something else right?....which means YOU HAD THE TIME, And even if you didn't, i still say CUT THE GUY A BREAK!

my thought to. shouldn't you not be posting from a cop car? then again it says he's in Jersey so....j/k

as an answer to your second question. there are PCM upgrade flashes in each country. some may be for all countries but some maybe country specific. i noticed the aussies talking about D an E flash. so it seems the nomenclature can be different in each country.

They flash the ECUs with pixie dust in Japan.

Newbies asking dumb questions (or interesting, long-answered questions like Youngpit's) don't bother me much... it's easy enough to throw a new person a link to a good thread as to refer him to the search engine, and people who've read the threads or posted in them can find the best threads very easily... there is a learning curve to using the forum, and over time people ask better questions and provide better answers.

Here is a link discussing the answer to Youngpit's question, which also mentions that Japanese gas is different than U.S. gas... something I did not know:
Japanese RX8 ECU

I heartily agree with the "give 'em a break" attitude. My beef is slightly different, and it's not meant to rag on Youngpit... he's just one of many that have recently taken to posting non-descriptive forum titles. It's driving me crazy!

This thing is getting out of hand now. Every other thread has a question that has been asked before and as a result, flaming ensued.

I suggest creating another section for newbies so that those questions can be posted there. All newbie type questions posted on the regular section can be moved to the newbie section as well. Those who love to spend time answering those questions for the tenth time can go monitor that section. For those who gets annoyed with these threads, just stay out of the newbie section.

Some car forums have such a system (e.g. newcelica.org) and it works pretty well. In fact, I'm going to post this on the suggestions section.

Complete utter bollocks in my opinion.
Indeed, fuel and spark tables for the Escpape / Tribute (a joint Ford-Mazda program) are exactly the same for US and Japan models (calibrated using 91 RON reference fuel). Only the EU models were based on 95 RON fuel (bit more spark advance).
So if there is a difference between US and Japan, it does not affect AFR (same H/C ratio then) and Borderline Detonation spark (thus knock limit). I guess the blends can be different US vs Japan, but it does not affect performance.

I have to jump in for the kid.
Its more of a teach and learn situation here.
Instead of saying "use the Search button"
give the answer to him or her, obviously you here the time for it.
By giving the answer we all learn from it,
it refresh our mind. for those who hnow it or forgottenit. I am sure almost all questions has been posted, are we to copy all the post to our hard drive and never come back to this site again?
If I hnow the answer I would answer it, If my answer is outdated,
I hope someone would update it. If I dont know the answer I would stay tune for the answer.
The bottom line is I dont mind repeating myself if someone is willing to listen.

guess what the Wankel repeat itself by going around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around

almost forgot this IMHO.

Yeah I agree.
It's like when my dad was a total internet newbie and he used to ask, what was to me, very stupid questions. They can be irritating but we have to bear with them.
Instead of being sarcastic and telling off the newbies, it would be more proactive to give them tips on how to search. Maybe they're internet newbies too. If you think they're wasting your time, just don't reply. They will eventually find a most generous person to help them.
But we have to expect this type of reaction from the know-it-all's sometimes.

For some reason I have this vision of most people on this fourm slapping the hell out of the new guy at the office for asking when lunch is and then gang yelling at him for not having a cover sheet on his tps reports. That and the vision of the old man sitting on his porch, shotgun in hand, yelling at kids to stay off the grass.

got8,

very well said...i couldn't agree with you more...and yes people on this board can be quite hostile when it comes to this....the moral of the story.....LIGHTEN UP!...why chew someone apart for asking a question that may have been already discussed?...if that were the case any 'new thread' could be treated with 'do a search on the net'...that what this board is for....for people to voice their opinions...what if people have recently joined that have experienced certain aspects of the 8 that perhaps older members have not, and someone posts a thread pertaining to a topic that may have been discussed?....so it's not as bad as people make it out to be...

I don't mind answering those questions from a new member. It's not that big of a deal. I enjoy helping when I can.

If some of the seasoned whiners would stop and think about it....there isn't a whole lot which hasn't been discussed already.

I'd much rather read threads from new RX-8 owners asking legit questions than those inquiring about farts or the intellectual, "who would win, Batman or Superman?" nonsense.

So youngit.....ask away....there are those who will help if they can.
