A simple request from an RX-7 owner
Well, if there's one thing I'd like to see in the RX-8 besides pre-amp outs on the head-unit, its AN OIL LEVEL GUAGE! Porsche's have it, so I know they're available. This tiny little guage would be SUCH a nice information guage, and probably would save some engines! Please oh please put one of these in the RX-8.

I can see it being a convenience and not a vital guage, although rotaries use an oil metering pump. It would be just another reason not to pop the hood and check the fluids, belts and battery, and it won't tell you if your oil is contaminated or needs to be changed. Starting in 2004, cars will have tire pressure guages/lights on the instrument panel also.

No, I'm not lazy at all. Infact, I check my oil every other day, I just find it MUCH more convieniet to have a guage in the car. I am already under the hood enough, and to those people who refuse to pop the hood and check everything, then their already in trouble.
Oil is the life-blood of the rotary engine, and without it BAD things happen. I thought this would be a great idea, but aparently some of you guys don't welcome USEFUL add-ons. And also, I change my oil by miles/hours anyway, so how would ANY guage(besides the odometer) be useful for scheduling oil changes?

True, but the oil pressure guage is a pseudo-oil level guage as well. Low pressure means possible low oil level. It's not like a 2-stroke engine with oil injection from a separate reservoir that must be watched every tankful.
For a Buick owner that might be a viable option over an idiot light, but to performance car enthusiasts it's somewhat redundant when other guages could(and should) take precedence, such as EGT, AF, Water and Oil Temps.

As much as I'd like to have an EGR and oil temp guage from the factory, the fact is, almost every car doesn't have one, and for the most part, doesn't need one. Its only a person who really worries about that stuff, like in a modified RX-7, that really even needs one. And no, an oil level guage is not nessarily required. Its just nice to have, and, what I'd think, would be a valuable resource. And if you think air/fuel is nessary in the car, then you should stop talking right now. Air/fuel guages are AWFUL. The o2 sensors are so horribly off its not even funny, so don't even spout that here. EGT is the only 'real' way to go.
And yes, I have and do use this stuff. I have a 10th Ann Ed RX-7 w/ RB 3" exhaust and HKS intake...I do need to worry about these things.
