Small hit, big bang
Hi guys, last night I rolled over a dead stray dog and heard a knock from under my car. When I got home, I discover my rear tunnel member and the fuel tank metal covering was damaged. Does anyone know how much these would cost to replace. More importantly does anyone know how to check whether the fuel tank has cracked or leaked? Its still under warranty but I doubt this is covered, anyone had any ideas whether insurance would cover this??? Thanks

Having ripped my crossmember out via a catalytic converter laying in the road, I can tell you that 1ea F151-34-H90 Member, Transverse costs $107.14. Buy the part, and install it yourself. It's only four bolts! :D As for the fuel tank covering... dunno. My damage was strictly to the crossmember. Insurance should cover it, IF you want to make that claim and pay the deductible.

It should be covered under Comprehensive coverage, which usually has a lower deductible. I hit a deer with my Pilot last year. It did a number on the front bumper - had to be replaced. ONly cost me $50 in deductible.

I don't think mine was damaged in the cross-member, its the little brace just under the mid-pipe just before the fuel tank. Anyway thanks for the help, can anyone else tell me how much the fuel tank covering is or does it have to be replaced with the fuel tank as a whole. I'm hoping its just dent to the metal and not necessary to be replaced.

I'm referring to the area towards the middle of the car near the mid-pipe area just after the rear tunnel member is being hit. The fuel tank is made of hard plastic and there's some kind of metal insulator or covering with holes (about coin size) to shield the tank from the exhaust heat. There were substantial damage to this metal casing (this might have been a recall item anyway), is this a separate replaceable item or it has to be replaced with the fuel tank as a whole. I'm thinking if the tank was damaged, there would be some sort of leak but there's none since the accident. I wanna know what I'm expected to pay and how much repair work is involved coz my dealer sucks.
