Smart Key Feedback
#27
I love the fact that the key just sits in my pocket. My house/garage/office are all keypad accessed, so I don't have any "regular" keys I carry around. I just put the smart key in my front pocket and off I go.
What I DON'T like about it is the fact that once you've opened the car (drivers door only), and then need to open the passenger side from outside, you can't just press their outside door button - even with the key right beside it. You have to walk around to the drivers door again, and hit the unlock button on the inside of the door. Who the heck programmed that?

The only thing I don't like is how I have to press the door button twice to unlock both doors on the drivers side but only once on the passengers side. I wish to change that!

I like the smart key. I keep it in my front pocket, by itself, with no other keys. I initially had problems with the battery and the replacement battery, but since I installed a new battery, it's been flawless.

Lol. That was a safety feature because apparently before on older remotes both doors would unlock at the same time. Well someone trying to rob you or something could just hop right into the passenger seat as soon as you unlocked the doors. They did this as a prevention, so if you really want the passenger door unlocked, you have to hit the remote button twice.

It also isn't specific to the 8. I have four cars and they all do that. It might be a government requirement, I don't know. None of my cars offer an option to let a single press unlock both doors.

I've got one, and although I didn't like the idea of it when I first got the car, I've grown accustomed to it and now rather like it. I like the push button opening and closing of the doors and not having to put a key in the car to start it. It would be better if there was another push button for the trunk on the outside, as you do have to dig into your pocket and use the "key" itself. But, overall it's working out OK for me.
As far as sitting on it, just put it in your front pants pocket like I do. The washing machine thing can happen to any sort of key, or even your cel phone, so that's not a complaint of the key. That's just your own negligence.
Of course, you can always use the actual key that's in the smart key and get back to basics. I guess you'd just have to drill a hole in it to put onto a key chain.
