TX Smart Key thingy broke

My smart key's plastic where the metal ring attaches broke. Any place else I can drill a hole without messing up the electronics, to put the round metal thingy? It is on top right corner.

Mouchie, another of your useless posts but hey your post count is way high
HAHAHAHa, hey I can understand.
No, I can not just get another one, why?
Do you know what a smart key is? I knew you did not know.
OR do you?
It is what opens the doors, starts the car, locks the doors
All work fine
A new one is over 200 bux, ie one has to go to the dealer to have it programmed
In fact, I bought a used one on Ebay about 2 years ago or so. The key did not work, it was cut/used. but not for my car. I went to my local hardware and had it recut. What could I lose? one buck? Lo and behold, after being re cut, it worked.
The smart card electronics do not work with my car, It has to be programed FOR my car.

Anyone know where I can get it programed....for CHEAP? ie less than 50 bucks or so?

The easiest thing for me to do is drill a hole on my current smart card.
to do what? To insert the metal round thingy so that I can attach it to my keyring.
That is the only purpose of the round metal thingy, guess its called a round metal key holder?
Currently, since my smart key does not have a round metal key holder, I just carry it in my pockets. I sometimes lose it, ie forget which pocket it is in or in which shorts, pants, shirt, etc. I do not have to see it or touch it to open the doors or start the car, so I never really know where it is. All I know is it is somewhere on me. Also since I do not drive my car daily, hehehe I am one of the lucky ones that does not have to work, ie have a daily job,so my car is not a daily driver. I also have a bike and a 4 banger that I use.
Lots of times I spend hours looking for it.

Last time was when my cousin came to visit out of town.
We went all over town in HIS CAR.
After he left, I decided to move my car. Why? I do not know but could not find my smartkey.
I called him, he was gone about 30 miles. He stopped and checked the front seat where I sat. NO smart key.
Told him to come back and we would go to every place we visited.
He returned and I searched under the seat. Hey there it was. Also found a keyring he had lost.

That was a close one. If he had not returned I would have been SOL, since he rarely comes to town. He lives about 55 miles away.

See why I want to attach the metal key holder?

Either way thanks for you bump, even if you do not understand all my blah blah blah at least we both got our post count a bit higher......trying to make it to the thousand count mark.

^ What if you lose it? You can't get a new one? Anyway, it's up to you if you want to drill a hole thru it, that's fine with me. Well, i guess you can't afford to replace it, then just do what you gotta do.

I'm not familiar with the smart key - I just have switchblade keys with my 8. But maybe you can build back the broken corner with epoxy?

Why would anyone want to spend $200 when you can could POSSIBLY still use the one you got. You're like the smelly kid in class everyone hates and doesn't want to sit next to.

Excuse me teacher...the op wants to know if he could drill a hole thru the smart key because the thingy broke. What if he damaged the electronics inside? Then, the op will definitely has to buy a new one. The op is asking if he could drill a hole or not, thank you.

Perhaps you could search your local hardware store for some sort of ring that you could affix with adhesive? Maybe use some epoxy on something like:

Leacher? Because I don't post something stupid on every single thread on this forum?

everyone calm down

To the OP, as has been mentioned you could build back up the corner with epoxy. It's just a groove in the edge with a pin through it that makes up the corner. Some time and effort could have it back to working order.

You could also just leave it and keep your keys on a separate key change. I only keep one key on my smart key since it's always seemed like a fragile part to me. The key should have had a lanyard that looped through it, not a metal ring.

Another option is also valid, buy a replacement. You can buy them for around 50 bucks on ebay, but do some research here because not all smart keys work for all cars.
