Snubbed by RX-7 owner - twice!!!

Driving home from work a couple of days ago, I pull up beside a guy in a clean 95' RX-7. My window was down so I gave him the "thumbs up" and said "nice car".

The guy glances at me and then ignores me. Am I missing something here?

I know the RX-8 isn't an RX-7 but what the heck?!?!

This makes the second time I've been snubbed by a last gen RX-7 owner.

Maybe he couldn't hear you over the roar of the idling rotary.

usually rx-7 owners are alot nicer because they know what kind of car they want when looking for it. i work with someone who also has an 8 and shes like i dont know why people wave at me just because they are driving the same car. some people just dont appreciate the difference between our car and every other car on the street thank god shes getting rid of it soon

I have finally gotten two 8 owners to wave at me when we see each other on the street. I guess I'm still too excited about my car and the pleasure I get when driving it (I'm pushing three years of ownership) and I just assume other 8 owners are just as happy.

I forget some people buy cars because the color is pretty.

yep it sucks when they buy a car for looks without knowing much about them to her its just another car but to the majority of us its more than that i love my car the more i drive it and am constantly looking for other 8 drivers

I smile and wave at every 8 I encounter on the road. Sometimes the other drivers look at me a little confused until they realize I am also driving an 8. Then they smile and wave back. I'm probably crazy, but I say high to the ones I see parked also. LOL

Me too! I'm usually very quiet and shun large groups of people but get me in a car related situation and I come alive.

I won't think twice about walking up to someone, in a non-threating way, and asking questions about his/her car.

It's funny, I get snubbed by RX-7 owners but three months ago, a nice kid in a SRT-4 flagged me down on the road to ask me about my car. He was really shocked when he saw me pull out of my local gas station sideways with both tires smoking

Yes, this is unfortunately true. Especially in reference to 8 drivers who some seem to look at as the red-headed step child of the rotary world.

i think alot of current 8 drivers are viewed by 7 drivers as having the car because its "cool" or "pretty" instead of for the history of the rotary

There used to be a time when a rotary driver would go by and would wave at you as long as it was another rotary. It didn't matter if you were in an RX-2, RX-3, or any generation of RX-7. Go check out the opinions of the RX-8 over on the 7 forum. Suddenly many of them feel high and mighty compared to the RX-8 and they don't like it. I don't understand why. We rotary bretheren should stick together.

That's about as stupid as me not liking 7 drivers because I think they just want to be like Dom from F&F. What a stupid idiot you have to be to generalize to that extent.

why dont you go ask 7 drivers and 8 drivers their opinions i have met about five 8 drivers on my base and everyone 1 of them bought it "because it was cool" except 1. with the car being new and still on the market at a decent price just about anybody can buy them.

whereas rx-7 drivers had to spend time and energy to find their car and they knew why they wanted it and what they wanted. so yes they will think that way but u must be niave to think people dont generalize people for any reason what so ever

not when they were new cars - thats ridiculous. people bought them for the same reasons the buy other cars- because they liked it and it was what they wanted at the time. some because it was a rotary and others because it looked great in montego blue etc

I was happy with this thread until it took an ironic turn. Here I'm ticked because an RX-7 owner snubbed me and now two 8 owners are name calling over what one thought the other meant. SHEESH!

To answer the above question, I doubt he knows me. I've been in this town my whole life and involved in car clubs for ten years. He didn't look familiar at all. RX-7's are quite a rarity in my town.

ok saturn i see what u are saying u are attempting to say that people that generalize like that are stupid idiots but the way you quoted me it seemed you were saying i was a stupid idiot for generalizing like that. but as we know stereotypes go on everyday like the guy who wears nice clothes "hes a stuck up prep" and most of them are wrong but it still happens

I remember when I first got my FB back in 1980. We would flip up the headlights as a greeting to other RX-7 drivers. We were so rare back then and essentially everyone who had one was an enthusiast.

<Sigh> Now half of the RX-7 community are high school kids who weren't even born when their cars were built.

Ahh, I see. I thought we were just fighting for something to do. Guess my post was poorly worded. I just hate middle-aged 7 owners that have a victim's complex because no one "gets" the rotary and then hypocritically snub 8 owners because of some arbitrary reason.

Whenever I come across another 8 owner I always give a wave or a honk or something. Most just completely ignore me like I'm some kind of idiot. I have to say it seems that alot of 8 owners just bought the car because it was pretty. My previous car was a Mustang, and I don't think I ever got snubbed by a fellow Mustang owner, they have a much better community, at least in my area. One time I parked next to an 8 owner who was getting in his car, I said hey, he completely ignored me and drove away.

F'ers
