The 2nd gen RX-7's had flash to pass lenses. The headlights shine through a lens when they are in the down position. Just pull the high beams. We used to just flash them at other RX-7's. The headlight flash was always the universal greeting for other rotary owners.

I hate "pretty" car drivers. You should have to take a rotary test before buying one :-)

I am so nice in mine that I caught up to a Mazda 6 today just so he could see which Mazda he should have bought.

Well I'll counterbalance your experience with a very friendly one I had a while back. I was going to Target and I see a younger kid in an old red RX-7. I gave a quick 'toot-toot' on the horn and a wave as I passed him on the left.

Next thing I know, he's speeding up and right on my tail. I thought I pissed him off or something, and was a little freaked out when he followed me into the Target parking lot and pulled up next to me. When I got out, he was gushing "Oh my God, I've been wanting to get a look at a Shinka forever. Can I check it out?"

He made me open all the doors, the hood to check out the engine, pull off the engine cover, check the trunk space etc., etc.,

He said he just got into rotaries about five years ago and has two Rx-7s and is saving up for an RX8. He really couldn't have been a nicer guy, although he did make me late!

That's very nice!!! A while back I was going to the post office and passed a lady driving a red one so I smilled and waved and she waved back. When I came out of the post office she was parked next to me. She had turned around and come back to talk to me!!!!

It ticks me off quite a bit when I see 7 owners shun the 8 as well. Its my dream to own an 8 and a 7 from all three generations. I guess the 8 just isnt for everyone right now.
On the otherhand, ive had both good and bad experiences with other rotary owners. About two months ago a guy in a montego blue fd from my town drove past me, gave me a thumbs up and a honk and kept on his merry way. Another time, a guy in a white fc also gave me a thumbs up and we went happily on our way. Another time, a kid in a red fc was next to me at a light in heavy traffic, grilled my car very hard, and asked me if it was fast. I answered more than fast enough for me and smiled. He gave me a dirty look and turned off. I also just recently gave a honk and wave to a guy in a red fc near my town, he also gave me a dirty look.

As a former FC owner ('87 GXL) you should let your dream stay a dream. Believe me, that car has NOTHING on the 8.

You should aim for the sky and aspire to own a F430. That's my unattainable goal, afterall.

I always park next to any 8 I can find. I have actually come out of some apartment complexes to see the other 8 moved away from my car when the spot next to me is empty...

Some people just don't get it... hell when I owned VWs everyone was nicer than 8 drivers...

One time I pulled over because I saw an FC getting gas. I waited till the guy came out of hte store.

Then I jumped out of my car and went to talk to him. He thought I was a freik. But what was funny was he ddin't know what an Rx8 was. He knew his car had a rotary, but he didn't know how they worked or about any other rotary cars. So it goes to show some people just don't know. whether it's because it's just a good looking car they own or they're just stupid

I agree with dmorales, a couple of times I inquired about the owners cars and they had no clue about the rotary dynamics. All they cared for was that it was fun and fast enough for them. So not all drivers are pure educated enthusiasts.

Maybe if there was a rotary test application before purchase like one member suggested? Then you'd still probably be snub'd, only this time by educated ones.

F'ers

I think that may be a sign of the times, not necessarily 8 owners. I haven’t had opportunity to meet any RX-7 or RX-8 owners. I waved at one 8 passing by and he waved back. The others were either parked or passing by me by the time I noticed (maybe some just catching flies?).

I've had nothing but positive and friendly interactions with both 7 and 8 owners.

Wow, you guys are insane! LOL, j/k.

But anyways, I have my black RX-8 for a week now and just saw a red RX-8 drive by across me in a neighorbood. My friend next to me said, "oh look, it's another RX-8!". I was hoping he waved at me, but he didn't, so I let out a big sigh... And it wasn't hard to notice me at all with my hot beautiful car sticking out, hehe.

Of course I didn't waved first, I've never waved at anyone before... I'll try to get some more courage next time.

That's pretty ironic too, because i also own a cobra, and maybe it's because it's a cobra and not a mustang or GT, but almost every stang owner I see either flicks me off, peels out or just plain drives like F-in psycho around me. Likely to just be around here, but the stang owners kinda remind me off the rebel-without-a-cause attitude...like every other mustang out there is inferior to theirs...even if it's only a V6 base.

On the flipside, my experience with the 8's have been limited. I have only seen ONE since i've had my car almost a month and 1/2...and that was a HS girl (auto). I'd like to think that their crowd would be a lil more friendly.

As for the deal with this RX-7, i don't know why, but they seem to have this superity complex from the few i've seen. I don't think ANY of those i've seen care about the mazda or rotary family...they all seem to have the analogy that theirs is faster, so it's better.

As mentioned, Lima is a very ricey city...everyone's just gas-pedal happy around here. Even some of the more pricey muscle cars act like children.

Ok, I give up. If the guy didn't talk with you how did you determine it was a 95 and not 94?

Without popping the hood you can't tell the difference between a 94 and 95(that I know of), both 94 & 95 had passenger airbags(fastest way to tell), 93s did not. Also the 93s had a few other differences but I'm in too deep about this already.

I personally love talking with other rotary people, no matter which model.

To defend the 7 guy a little, most 8 people I've met just bought a pretty car and know nothing about the car. They could care less and I personally feel slightly retarded when trying to start a conversation with them about "our" car.

I don't even bother trying to engage 8 people while in my FD. The odds of them knowing what I'm driving are slim to none.

Well people, I have a highly modified 95 RX7 (silver, single turbo, "etc") and I would gladly wave at any RX8 owner. I appreciate any and all fellow rotary engine vehicles.

I wave at 8 drivers all the time. For some reason I see them more when I'm driving my wife's Matrix... and I get some strange "do we know him?" looks.

The 7 owners I've met down here are pretty cool. Lots of friendly 8 owners. I think it just depends on hte person and the attitude of the local population. If they're mostly rude...

Not a TRUE 8 owner???

Just let it be known, I am not a noob. I have been a member for about 1 1/2 yrs, but my other username was giving me such problems. Anyway, I am confused here, but I guess I am not a true 8 owner??? I mean I love my car but I didn't buy it because of the history of the Rotary. I brought it because I loved the way the car looked inside and out, and how rare it was seen in my area. Actually the Rotary engine had nothing to do with me buying it. Anyway, I never ran into problems with people disliking my car, except the NEON-SRT people. Actually, a police officer pulled me over last week just to talk and compare my 8 and his 8, that was pretty cool. If anyone thinks Im BSing here, ask the member Alucard(officer who pulled me over) LOL, he will back my story.

Sorry for the long post
