90% of the people who bought brand new Rx-7's did so for the same reasons you just stated. Now, however, most 7 owners bought used ones. The rotary was probably a big part of that decision. Since many 8 owners are new to rotary powered cars, knowledge may be lacking. So instead of being jackasses, those who like to put down these rotary noobs should be welcoming and educating them. But the average age of a 7 owner is most likely quite a bit lower than an 8 owner, so maturity could be lacking.
In my opinion.

I completely agree, and very well stated!

lotta ppl think it's just a car and compliments are not necessary or stupid.
for example, i always give fellow Evo drivers thumbs up or somethin on the streets. today this asian dude in a grey Evo looked at me like i was nuts as my hand was outside of my window with the thumb sticking up. i felt bad for about .03 sec. and got over it

Well, I've decided I'm still going to wave at any 8 owner I see or any other person who's car I like. Some may think I'm nuts but once in a while, it makes someone's day to compliment their car.
In this day of road rage, it's nice to make a friend on the street.

I drove a Jeep Wrangler for six years before buying the 8. Until reading this thread, the "Jeep people" were the only car owners I had ever seen who all wave at each other. I really took me by surprise when I first got it and every Jeep driver that passed me waved at me. And of course, Jeeps outnumber 8s about a million to 1 out there, so it happened several times a day. I sort of miss that. I love driving my 8 so much more than driving a Jeep (duh). But I've literally only seen one other 8 since I bought mine three weeks ago. I suppose I'll take the sheer joy (and uniqueness) of driving the 8 over the "Jeep wave" any time.
P.S. Excuse the f**k out me for not being a rotary expert (yet)....lol

Well I know when I had my Ninja all the other sport bike rides would wave not matter what. Since I got my 8, I have had a lot of other 8's wave at me. As for alot of the 7 owners that is a different story. There is a 7 meeting every month near us. I have not gone yet but another 8 owner I know did. He said they where very short with him and would only talk to him if he talked to them first. Another 7 owner told me a lot of 7 owners think we just have too much money if we can buy an 8. I responded no we just have the car payments and the warrenty!!! He laughed and said yea I guess with the amount of money he had spent over the years on his 7 he could have bought and 8. I do seem to get a lot of Honda Civic's that like to rev up there motor when I get near them. I think it is just the fact our cars look sooooo good they just cant stand it!!

I enjoy waving to other rotor heads no matter if I'm in the seven or the eight. Most of the time I'm ignored in the eight or I get the funny look like "whats hes deal" or the awkward wave back because they don't know what to do. In the seven, people wave back or flash their lights. I think it comes down to the rx7 being more well known and desired because of the media. While the rx8 really doesn't get that much coverage and you don't really see too many on the street. Also from the people I talk to the eight is seen more negative because the norm is that the driver is just a poser who just wants to be flashy and know nothing of the car. Plus I always seem to over hear people complaining that an rx8 cut them off or almost hit them because they were trying to show off. I love both my rx cars about even and actually have the 8 as a daily driver. Sadly the 8 doesn't get the respect it deserves yet but I'm sure it'll change in the future with people,(the mass public and the newbie rotory owners,) getting more knowledge about the car.

8s are so rare here we have to find Gts and Corvettes to wave at us...And many actually do (the rest just want to see if we are faster!). We have gotten so lonely for the face of another 8 we are going up to that rotarfest in Frisco on the 24th. 7s should be ther aplenty, and maybe even some real antiques. And Mom (94 years) is studying up and wants to attend all presentations on the engine - She says she got to see the first Model-T in the Oklahoma Territory and she just wants to see what it has evolved into!

Well, the 8 is a new car, so lots of people buy it just because it's pretty, or because of its price, or the colors, the comforts etc etc. Few of them know what a rotary is, and what makes it different than *any* other piston-powered car
However, back in the days of owning a 7, sometimes the FD owners would shun the FC owners just the same It was that "I'm faster than you" syndrome, or even worse the "I'm richer than you". I know, because I got these "I pity you" looks from the FD owners all the time....
Anyway, back on topic, I honk at almost every 8 I see, but it's getting a bit problematic, because the 8 is selling rather nicely in Greece, and it's not a rare sighting anymore....

I know what you mean, I had a RX-7 owner snub me the other day after I waved to him, "The Bastard" I thought. So I caught up to him at the next light, got out of my car and grabbed the baseball bat I keep in the back seat, love those back suicide doors. The first swing took out his windshield then roof and onto the back window. He tried to get out of the car but fortunately I was in range and thrust kicked him back in into the car. A couple of more swings with the bat on his doors then I pulled my knife and cut his tires. For good measures as I was getting back into my car I tossed a lit molotov cocktail I had into his open window. As I drove away with the RX-7 flaming in my review mirror I just wondered how some people could be so rude.
