I agree.
Back in 93 when I bought my 7, my main motivation was because it was fast, cool
looking and a p***y magnet.
Example: on my test drive, I got a t*tty flash from a hot MILF.
Call me superficial... It worked, I bought the eight knowing nothing about rotary
and have been hooked ever since.

I know what you're talkin about, I used to think it was pretty much a Jeep or motorcycle thing.......but it seems much more fun to get a wave from a fellow rotary enthusiast. I must admit though, being that I have a CJ-5....I'm sometimes almost hesitant to wave at the Wranglers. I think it goes back to the ol' saying..."Real Jeeps are built, not bought". But anyway, I sorta know how those RX-7 guys feel. I'm sure they run into more clueless 8 owners than they do "rotorheads". So we're all thrown into the stereotype.

I've found that to be true unless you wander into the engine swap section of rx7club. They all want you to swap to an LS1. ATT, I was wondering about the feasibility of shoehorning a renesis into an FC. (I had an FC that would have been mine for free and the engine was salvagable from my old 8).

Sorry, off topic...

At the risk of being flamed for being an ignorant newbie, can someone please define some of these cars I keep seeing comparisons to in these threads, such as FD and FC? Lots of new acronyms to learn! The only acronym I'm familiar with in this particular thread is "MILF", but that's a whole different hobby.

FB = 1st gen. RX-7
FC = 2nd gen.
FD = 3rd gen.

A brand new 8 whizzed past me yesterday, so I speed up to get next to it. There is an older lady driving it, MAYBE 40-44 years old. She has her windows down, so I giver her a wave.

She looks over at me, rolls up the window, and slows down so that she's not next to me. I honestly had no idea what to do, I guess she thought I was racing her??

In addition to what the others said: they come from the VIN, and though, if you followed that tradition the 8 should be designated the FE (JM1FExxx...), there's no quicker way to stir up a bunch of 7 owners . The 8 is called SE3P in Japan, not sure why though, some sort of factory code I assume.

Thanks Ike and Therm8. And here I thought the FC and FD were some exotic car that I had never heard of....like the EVO. Again, I'm a recently reformed Jeep guy, so performance is a new concept to me. Didn't know what I'd been missing.

I make it a point to "wave" at RX-8 owners when I'm driving my FD around. And by "wave" I mean pop up the headlights real quick. Sometimes I'll wave out of the sunroof. Not one acknowledgement from the 8 owners.

I did pull up to a VR 8 about a month ago and the kid driving it looked all wide-eyed. I looked over, smiled, and said "nice car." I had a green before him so I put on a nice display (made much easier by the shitty tires on the 7 right now).

Let me try to upload a pic of my rx7 (or more than one pic). I am running max 15 psi right now with 93 gas. I should be putting down 400 at the wheels once I get a better tune on the power FC.

No luck with pics at the moment (pic size too big).

I know the RX-8 isn't an RX-7 but what the heck?!?!

This makes the second time I've been snubbed by a last gen RX-7 owner.

Well in Boise its quite the opposite. The FC's n some FD's all wave at each other, have bbq's and a local club n what not. They also race their cars. The Boise RX8 owners are thee worst I've seen about being snobs, they never autox them, they never come down to our level and participate in the local rotary club. I see one at least every other day and the owners even look like snobs. Half the reason I wanna get an RX8 is to show them all up in being sociable with it and enjoying it.

I get that from 7 owners sometimes. I also get it from older 8 owners sometimes. I think it's jealousy! I look young for my age and I think that many of the 8 owners think I'm too young to own the car (I'm 34) and the 7 owners wish their rotaries were as cool as the 8. Don't get me wrong I like the older rotaries too but I have Nav, suicide doors, almost as much hp but still n/a (for 3rd gens), xenon lights, and I have heated seats! There's a lot to be jealous of.

Man you must be smoking something funny if you think that I am jealous of your RX8 when I have my highly modified 95 RX7. If you really think that way then you don't deserve to be in the rotary engine club.
