So I crashed my 8..

Indeed. Had my 8 since November 2006 and on the 5th of July I had my first accident..

Lets go back to yesterday now.. I was on I-95 going the flow of traffic (about 70 mph), then at pretty much 2 car lengths from me I see a Mercedes turning into my lane going probably less than 50 for some damn reason. I'm thinking to myself if he does go into my lane I'll have to either stop hard or turn left or right.. This went by so fast that I couldn't think anymore, the person turned into my lane at about 1 car length! I reacted and looked behind me, to my left, and to my right, there was a car on my tail and a car on the left so I made a shape turn at 70 to the right and yea.. I lost control after the wheels lost traction. I made a 360 in the middle of the highway and I hit the intersection curb from the passenger side leaving me facing the opposite direction. Lucky no one else hit me.. It was only me. The person who cut me off kept driving of course. I'm fine though. Only my neck is sore, I'm guessing because of the 360 motion and the hit.

The 8 is not fine..
Not as bad of a crash though.

Don't think it's a total. I'll have to see what the insurance says..

And here's the pics..

Can't really see it on this pic but the rear tire is bent from the hit. I hit from the rear side first when I hit the curb. And my front right tire can't move. Only 1 side of the 8 is damaged. The drivers side is fine.

I suffered very similar damages to mine, with the exception that the front wheel was completely destroyed. Mine incurred about $10,000 of damages (4.5k parts, 4.5k labor, rest is tax). That was my insurer's estimate, so the actual amount of damage assuming new parts should be higher than that.

How many miles is on yours? Mine is an 06 with 1500 miles, so they considered the value to be 19.5k. Also, with less than 15,000 miles, they were required to spec all new parts for replacement, instead of used/aftermarket.

It sounds as though you have severe suspension damage, since your right front wheel doesn't move. That may be pretty significant in cost....

but yeah, good thing you are ok. It might come out to be a total =\

Sorry that it happened. Glad your OK.

And sometimes I think it would be worth just hitting the morons that unsuspectedly cause accidents and don't even know it. May be the awakening they need to be a better driver.

Thanks and yea.. I have about 16,500 miles. Damn so if they do repair it, I'll get used/aftermarket parts?

I keep hearing from others that my car won't ever run the same again.. Man that sucks.

It might not run exactly the same, but if you get really good repair shops, they can do wonders. Try asking on your regional forum check the good guy forum for a good repair shop in your area.

With regards to the used/aftermarket, you may need to check your insurance handbook or something. I don't know if it's a universal standard, but my insurance estimator told me 15,000 miles. Unfortunately, he neglected to consider my rear door (which I don't think could have been repaired to new), or I think my side skirt. Those items he left to the shop. My shop is planning to just replace those parts and submit to the insurance that it was un-fixable (which it pretty much is).

If you do fall under the category of a "used" vehicle, then yes, the estimator will price out used/aftermarket parts for the front bumper, front fender, and wheels. There may be other parts in there. The he may price out for the replacement of the rear tire and front tire, I can't really make out from this picture. The rear bumper and rear quarter panel would probably be put under "repair and repaint".

Wow - sorry to hear about the wreck. Glad you weren't injured and hit by others. Damn Benz...

Your car doesn't look to be in great shape. Not like a jaw dropping disaster, but looks to be enough damage to be very price and who knows what is wrong with frame/suspension.

Good luck and keep us updated.

It's totaled... sorry man

Plus... you dont want to drive a car that's had substantial suspension replacement done; it just wont feel the same.

sorry to hear that...at least you are ok.

just wondering though...next time beep the mafakas when you see he is trying to get into your lane. dont even think of "oh hm if he is really going to my lane..."

People will usually go back to where they are when they hear a sudden beeeeep while changing lane....

Somehow I think you're going to be screwed by your insurance company, that premium is going to go way up.

In hindsight, it might've been better financially to let the Benz hit you, just so their insurance will pay for the repair.

Wishing you the best of luck on getting this resolved.

Ouch, that sucks dude. But yeah, there is going to be more damage underneath the car. It can be fixed but is the INS goign to want to shell all that money out.

Thanks guys..

The insurance is coming over to tow the car to a bodyshop around my area that they say is known for working on sports cars. I'll see what happens..

Oh for the guy that asked if my DSC was working.. The 07 sport doesn't have DSC. Probably would of saved the car if it did..

No DSC O_O....well its good to see your still alive. I think the insurance might consider it totaled if anything happened to the chassis. Good luck.

Sorry to hear, hope everything works out for you. I had some drunk guy run us off the road in my 7 a while back, I should of just slammed into him, but he got what he deserved a few months ago basically in the same spot (karma).

oh man, so sorry to hear about the accident Really glad you're ok tho.

+1 w/Ross_dawg - i really wouldn't advise driving a car that's had suspension damage as well.

I hope everything works out with insurance though...

Actually, I am not sure that rear-ending the mercedes would have gone any better for you. The collision speed would have been greater, with airbag deployment, still your fault unless you can prove otherwise (camera/witnesses), and greater cost to insurance company.

Not sure if that is the 'bent' section I see, but it looks like your right rear wheel is missing a large chunk of the rim between 2 spokes.

Glad to hear you are ok, it could have been worse.

Didn't realize the 07 sport had the DSC axed from it. That was a bad move on Mazda's part. DSC should be standard on every 8 model.
