So I was driving..
I went to Taco Bell tonight, or last night w/e.. I guess I was hungry.. Anyways, I order the food, leave and drive straight home. I'm driving, going 50ish on a local road.. I see this car behind me speeding up and slowing down a couple of times. I can't see what car it is since it's dark. Up ahead I see the lights turning yellow, I'm like 20 yards away from passing the intersection, I decide to run the red light, I ain't stopping, so I don't.. I ran the light just when it turned red. I was looking back, the car behind me breaks hard. I laugh and say to myself "loser"-- After that, I see white, blue & red lights popping up behind me.. I'm like hell no!! ..
I'm like ****, another ticket, since I had one in December for speeding. I made a thread about it. Anyway, I stop right away.. The cop starts walking.. I'm trying to take my license out. The cop says "What's up bro?" I'm like "yooo" (scared girls voice).. He asked me why I ran the light, where was I heading, and how old was I. I told him 20, heading home, and well, I didn't have time to stop.. He smiles and said "Do you have your license with you?" I say yes and show it.. He tells me to keep it. Asks me if I have a clean record, I said yes, he says he believes me. And asks if I have ever gotten a ticket.. I told him I had my first last month for speeding. He asks me if I paid it and all, I said yes, and went to traffic school.
He then says, "I don't want to give you a ticket bro, get out of here quick before I change my mind" - I'm like whoa, thanks sir..
When he's about to leave, he says "Nice car btw" -- I laugh..
I guess my feelings towards cops have changed.. I love them! Wooooooo!

You don't EVER run the red light, regardless of the time of day or volume of traffic in that area! What are you wanting to risk? Your car? Your license? Your life? Someone else'?
If the green light turns yellow and you have time to think about it, then you have time to come to a safe stop. If it goes yellow when you've got all of 20 feet, and trying to stop would be a risk to the people behind you, then you've almost no choice.
But if you're 20 yards away, you stop. Period. It's a shame he didn't ticket you, because you might have learned something.
You can go ahead and think I'm some sort of prickly bitch for saying that, but you would've learned SOMETHING.

Not here. I've cut it close on a few occasions only to see 2 or 3 cars immediately behind me to run the lights themselves. If I feel it's safer to proceed through when the light has immediately turned red upon entering the intersection rather than causing a pileup when I slam the brakes on for a yellow. It depends on speed but I know my RX-8 can stop but I usually doubt the braking abilities of the cars immediately behind me most of the time. I'm sure if the cop thought it was an unsafe incident he would have ticketed him. Besides all the beans and toppings would have slid off the tostados or nachos which makes a mess of your Taco Bell.

Thanks. I barely even ran the light. It turned red and I flew right by it.
The cop told me he was going to do the same, but didn't want me to think he was being an a-hole for stopping me even when he did the same.
And as for the excessive "bro's" -- That's how he mostly ended his sentences..
And yeh, I barely go to Taco Bell, I was just, in the mood.. And nah, my 8 doesn't smell like ****. I always put my windows down whenever I buy any fast foods or just plain food.
As for being lucky.. Maybe.. Thing is, I got owned by a cop last month, and that was my first ticket. This would of been my second in 2 months.. Weird uh, after not getting pulled over for over a year, I get pulled over twice.
Oh btw, for the people thinking I ran the light with incoming traffic, it was about 1130am, the roads were quiet, I actually looked both ways before going by.. But of course, you never know if something pops up. This was really my first time doing this..

Glad to hear you got throught it okay. Cops can be pretty cool sometimes. Do take his warning though. I'm one of those cars that slow down as I come to a red so I can keep rolling hoping it'll turn green and I can keep on moving. Going through a yellow is fine by me though. And if you barely don't make it, you're probably going fast enough where it wouldn't matter.

I'm not saying it's ok to run any red light period but every situation has it's variables in which you use your driving experience and discretion to make the decision on what to do at that given moment.

Because they are prone to cause accidents? I never run any red lights, but when or if I do, I don't jeopardize myself by passing an intersection with cars passing by. Hell, I think if I were to cause an accident or almost hurt someone, that cop would of sure given me a ticket. Even if he was cool. Which he was.
