Put too much oil in on accident, gonna drain it when my friend gets here.... Any real consequences of driving it for a mile or less? We're talking about 2 quarts <.< Yeah don't ask, I'm retarded.

 

No real damage, but after you drive that one mile(and no more) then and drain some...............then take a look inside your airbox and make sure none came up that way for the hell of it.
If you have any in there, then clean it out and check the air filter.

 

You went over a full 2 quarts?... and it didn't spit it back in your face as you were filling it up..?
It probably made itself comfortable in your intake.

Not sure how much it will actual hold before it goes through the overflow?
We know pouring it too fast can sometimes cause it to go through there...............but not sure about how much before it really does.
I would think with the cap off and pouring you would see it and see it start to go through there.
I always use a funnel, but even then, I would hope you would see it.


Oh and to the OP........it's okay, we need retards! It makes the rest of us look smarter.....especially me!

 

Hmm let's just say me with no rag to wipe the dipstick with = oil happy. I'll be sure to check the air filter and intake, thanks guys. Lesson learned xD

 

Everyone on here would be lying if they hadn't done something stupid working on their car. Welcome to the club.

 

I've left my oil cap off.. twice.. checking it as a gas station. Only to notice a day or so later and having to buy a replacement.

Did you lose count when your putting oil? lol

 

I once pulled away with the parking brake lever not entirely down.

 

Update: drained quite a bit of oil out, pretty sure it was at least two quarts but no real way of knowing. Cleaned out the intake as best I could as there was a little that made its way in there. I need a new air filter so replacing that with an oil change tomorrow. Any other advice?

 

Did you check the accordion tube?

 

I couldn't really get an accurate read on the dipstick becasue of the massive amount that was in there before... the smoke from my exhaust went away though. I did notice one thing - at about 7k rpm I noticed a pretty big power loss, but on the next rev in the same gear it didn't happen again. Thoughts?

 

If you mean the tube that goes to the air filter then yes, and I wiped it clean as best as I could.

 

Install an oil catch can..

 

The dumbest thing I ever did while working on a car was with my old 1966 Mustang. It was when I changed out the drive shaft. I disengaged it from the transmission and the car started to roll. I forgot to block of the wheels. Good thing I was laying length wise or I would have been run over. The car proceeded to roll across the street into a ditch. Top that moment of stupid!

So I changed the oil out, replaced the air filter, and took it to Mazda for a decarb. She runs fine again, so I just need to put some MT90 in when I finally find a place that sells it. Tragedy averted!

 

Hmm on second thought, it's idling a bit rough since the decarb and not starting right away in the heat. The radiator light has been on and I keep forgetting to have Mazda look at the issue. I'm gonna order some premix tomorrow and see if that helps any, and sometime this week I'll have Mazda look at the plugs, coils, and wires before getting a compression test done (maybe the battery, alternator, and starter as well). I'm nearly tapped out on cash, though, so I hope it's nothing serious. Here's hoping for the best.

 

did you clean the maf sensor? Did you allow your car to relearn the fuel trims?

 

I am scared to touch the MAF sensor, although I may have already accidentally when I was cleaning the oil that came up through the throttle body. I was reading the other thread that stated it was located between the intake and TB, but I don't actually know where. In regards to the second part, how long does that typically take, and would that explain the slightly hard starts in the heat?

The fuel trims are relearned after maybe 4-6 drive cycles (drive for 10 min, turn engine off until cool, restart= 1 drive cycle)

 

So when you put to much is that when you find oil in your intake box? Just curious

 

Clean the MAF...................it's two screws, pull it out, don't touch the insides of it, spray it down in all inside areas with good MAF cleaner(any auto parts store), pop it back in and tighten screws carefully. That's it.
Now......get after it!

 

I suggest finger tight. dont crank it. just hold the screwdriver with two fingers when tighten or you WILL strip it.
