Talking So this Mustang...

:D ... or thats what he thought. He pulled up to me and reved his engine. I looked over at him. When the light turned green, he sped off.... through the school zone. He had his gf in the car. The lady with the stop sign was flipping out and blowing her whistle.
Everyone else was going 15MPH and it was obvious he was speeding. The 8 makes people do stupid things... or maybe he was just dumb to begin with.

I think it's the 8. I have had the same experience from the unusual suspects: granny domestics. Somehow, some drivers think they need to prove to an RX-8 and they always assume that every RX-8 driver out there would bite. Something's up with the way this car looks that provokes a lot of road-stupidity when it passes by.

No it cant be our 8, the 8 is perfect, its has to be some unknown universal characteristic about its drivers :p Seriously I am sure everyone here has a few stories about races they were unknowingly in. Some one would should start a thread, cars that tried to race you, now thats a thread that would go on forever. I am sure you would get almost every car on the market right now, hell, you would even get a few that arent, like the black RSX v-tech I had a couple of weeks ago.

I agree with what type of people it brings out of the woodwork. I have only had this car for a week and cannot count all the would-be racers. Trans-Ams, Camaros etc...

well its just not the wanna be ricers. I was driving the five freeway in some what of a hurry and as I was changing lanes I dropped to fourth to get that extra lane changing power. Well I just happen to do in front of an old stingray so he takes off changing lanes to catch up and then as he (or so I thought) passes me the vette slows down until we are side by side. My puzzled look is increased even more when I see who's driving it. It was a sweet little old lady smiling. She then waves her hand and takes off almost hitting a truck a couple of car lengths ahead of us.

I bet some psyche major in college could write a pretty good doctorate thesis on why people feel threatened by a sports car when they're driving and feel the need to prove something(?) to themselves by racing it.

To me, that says something pretty sad about their self-esteem - especially when they try it in heavy traffic or when they have their family/ kids in the car.

I hate it when someone starts a thread off with a title that says one thing only to click on the thread and read just the opposite. Stop all the hype people!

I don't understand these people at all. I have people try to take me on all the time, on the frist day I got my car even. I had a Honda prelude rev at a stop light, even a stupid truck the other day. I had the last laugh on that one tho, because a big S turn was comeing up and i just whent in at a normal speed, so funny the guy couldent do it at my speed 50 mph :p the next day a first gen RX-7 peeled out infront of me and almost hit another car, geee I love cars and respect all others. What's their problem

Haven't had too much spontaneous agression displayed towards me at the stoplight. On the other hand I have had some tailgating incidents...once while flying down a highway, a motorcycle got right up against my bumper. Suffice to say, I was sorely tempted to slam on the brakes...

Another time I was doing my usual fly down a mountain side, when I suddenly see a modified Integra trying to get up close and personal with me in the rear view mirror. And upcoming was a tight curve to the right that I knew most cars would have to brake for. It was nighttime, so as I came up to the curve, I flashed my third brake light to prominently display my RX-8 brake light film, downshifted, and proceeded to just rip through that curve. Totally lost the Integra after that. :D

HAHA, I thought it was only me. I guess theres idoits all over the US trying to prove stuff to the RX8. However the only time I ever did bite was when a black Lambo reved on me. At first he came up from behind me, i was like cool, i get to see a Lambo today. I thought he was just gonna pass me but instead he pulls up beside me, revs me, then takes off. At the time i was in 6th going 80, so i droped it to 3rd and proceeded to chase. to my suprise I was able to keep up.... until he shifted..... wow..... thats all i can say. i wanna 300 thousand dollar car now. but it felt good to know that my car got the attention of a lambo.

If the challenger is driving a big, lifted 4x4 truck, I think it's called the "little ***** syndrome." I don't even know why they try; the 8 can beat them without even appearing to be racing.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... A diesel F250 with propane (analogous to nitrous) can smoke a stock viper.

Story:
An F250 and a viper sit side by side on a one way street in the middle of a downtown.. in the next block, the two one way lanes merge into a single one-way one lane. So someone has to lead. The viper wants to.. the truck idles.. Viper takes off, 250 hits the propane, viper sees exaust flames. nuff said

On another note, my girlfriend thought the ferrari was a new mustang. (...and her dream car is a shelby series 1).

*** MOD EDIT: No street racing stories please ***

Not nearly enough said. Where's the source of this story? It's going to take far more than a propane mod to make a 4-wheel drive F250 turn 0 to 60 speeds in under 4 seconds (like the stock Viper). Sorry, but I hear my BS detector going off.

Here's some pertinent information:

A stock V-10 500 HP Viper has a curb weight of about 3410 lbs. and will run the 1/4 mile in about 11.7 seconds. A 6.0L 325 HP turbo diesel Ford F250 has a curb weight of about 5490 lbs. Assuming the F250 retains its stock weight, it would require approximately 800 HP to hurl its 5490 lbs. of bulk down the 1/4 mile in 11.7 seconds. From what I've read, amateur propane mods boost the diesels HP between 4 and 10 percent while the professionally designed systems (usdieselparts.com) claim 50 to 80 HP increase. Even if you take the higher figure, even the most powerful of the turboed, big-bore diesel engines are going to fall far short of the required 800 HP needed to move the F250 as quickly as the Viper. And that's just to MATCH Viper. It would take considerably more power to beat it by a car length+ in only a city block.

Talking

"Probably with the clutch in while shifting to second and cruising at 20-30, he revs up, so I shift into second and try and keep up with him. He shifts, the ferrrari accellerates like nuts, BUT I KEEP UP. Then, he shifts into 3rd (we're doing about 50-60 now, speed limit is 55). HE SPINS HIS TIRES at this speed. Probably hits 80-90 before clutching again and just cruises back down to about 70 where I catch up with him again and we cruise at that speed for a few miles before our paths split."

Damn amateur in the 360. I love my RX-8 but I can tell you that if it was me in the other car (and I DO NOT street race as I save it for the track) you would see my 996TT tail lights getting smaller and smaller and smaller.
