So my check engine light came on....

I was driving home from a Super Bowl party and was kind of playing with a Porsche....while I was doing that, I dropped the car into third and and hit the throttle....when I did that the check engine light came on and began flashing. I was a little worried so I calmed things down and shifted into sixth. The light flashed for about five or ten seconds and then went off for the rest of the ride home.....

What could this have been?

I have a hunch that there is more to this story than what you are telling us, but honestly, any story starting with "I was kinda playing with a Porsche", isn't going to be good. I am guessing that you have been running this thing into the ground since you purchased it.

Actually no, there isn't. That was the first time I actually came near to redlining the car....

If you really want to know, take it to a dealer and ask them to read the DTC error codes. It's likely a misfire, possibly caused by fouled or faulty spark plug(s). Since a set of new plugs cost $100+ USD, you would be smart to let the dealer replace them under warranty.

Yeah, I don't know why people are all bitter. If you had said, "I was playing with a Porsche and he couldn't stay anywhere near me in the 'twisties'" everyone would have applauded you for showing the world that the RX-8 is an underrated car.

Bad things happen to cars all the time for all sorts of reasons. Someone could had set you up the bomb and sabatoged your car -- who really knows? I say take it to a dealer or buy one of those readout things that lets you check the engine codes yourself. Good luck with it.

Actually, no, most of us would have still thought he was an *** hat for street racing, but I'm sure he appreciates you sticking up for him.

I didn't realize going 70mph on the interstate was considered street racing.....a matter of fact, thats the speed limit.

Can a mod lock this for me cuz I have a feeling the ******** on this forum are about to show their true colors...

Thanks again to all those that were helpful.

My personal opinion is there is a big difference between "playing" (within the law)with someone and all out "racing" (not so much within the law) them. Why are people so quick to judge and not just help one of our own out?

I too believe it would be a good idea to go to the dealer and maybe get free plugs out of it, if it was indeed a misfire.

since its the first time you hae gotten close to red line i suspect your plugs are dirty and you experienced a misfire.the code stored MAY CLEAR ITSELF AFTer a few drives without a problem. so youshould go to the dealer as soon as possible. other wise they might give you the "no code no problem" crap and not even look at the plugs. if they do i suggest offering to pay if it turns out they arent fouled. but make sure you get to see them. so next time you can look at them yourself.

I know this is getting a bit off topic, but "street racing" and "playing" can be two completely different things. I'm all sorts of against anything that people do on the road (or anywhere else for that matter) that endagers people's safety unneccessarily so. Now, this is completely subjective and arbitrary, but I think the majority of people would say moving along on a unpopulated freeway at 85mph for a few seconds to pass a Porsche just to see what he'll do is acceptable. Otherwise, why would you even own an RX-8?

In any event, I just think you should give someone on this forum the benefit of the doubt before assuming he's a giant douche or turd sandwich. Also, no one got my "all your base are belong to us" reference.

Just made an appointment for tomorrow morning to get it checked out. Should I just ask them to replace the plugs under warranty?

And I did get the "all your base are belong to us" comment lol.

I think the problem is that people use the term "playing" anymore to refer to street racing and similar dumbass behaviors because it sounds less "bad."

Get back to the subject please.

It's your thread. You can delete the whole thing yourself since people are being such "********" to your racing ***.
