Why don't you check with Idemitsu Oil, they make the factory fill.....

Unless you don't wanna hear it's synthetic

You know mylittlenorthernbuddy, I've never been able to get definitive info on what is the factory fill.

the manual for the united states says long term effects of synthetic are unknown etc. and to use the grade listed, which is a non-synthetic grade. (i don't have the manual in front of me, so i can't quote it. but that's basically what it says.)

if kangaroos want to use synthetic i'm sure it's ok. they hop fast anyways.

As I said in my earlier post, the Mazda DVD that came with my new '05 RX-8 says to use "non-synthetic oil".

Funny, doesn't seem very ambiguous to me.

Ok, I'll buy that argument... if the dealer told me to put Tide laundry detergent in my gas tank, I'd use common sense...

The recommendation (ie MANUAL) says to use Grade III oil or higher... which is what Castrol Synthetic, Amsoil, and Royal Purple all grade out at or better.

IMPORTANT point missed here: outstanding service at a Mazda shop... out in 23 minutes after everyone agreed on the oil...

Detrich, I have the US Owners manual in front of me......it says nothing of the sort.

It says 5W-20 ILSAC or SL quality designation.

Are my posts somehow not showing up on this thread? As I said, TWICE NOW, my new '05 RX-8 came with a DVD titled "RX-8 Product Update". It's from Mazda North American Operations, 1444 MacGaw Avenue, Irvine, CA 92714-5570.

On this DVD it says to use non-synthetic oil. Why does this not count as documentation?

DON'T put Tide in your gas tank! I tried it, and the stuff really doesn't come out that clean.

Relax. I've seen the DVD. I got it before you did. I even started a thread here about it before it was released. I've just finished reviewing it again.

The DVD states that "although the oil seals are compatible with synthetics, the long term affects are unknown, therefore Mazda does not recommend using synthetic oil".

I repeat....PRODUCE THE DOCUMENTATION THAT SAYS CATEGORICALLY NOT TO USE SYNTHETIC.

The 2005 Mazda RX-8 Product Update DVD says specifically, "NON-SYNTHETIC 5W-20 OIL SL or ILSAC APPROVALS." The narrative further goes on to say that the long-term effects of synthetic oils are unknown and that Mazda does not recommend using synthetic engine oils.

That is Mazda's "official position" on the matter, and it sounds clear to me- unless you guys have new 2006 product info that supercedes it for 2006 model cars.

I'm a patient man, so I'll try to go slowly this, the third time I'll be saying this. Yes, you are right, the Mazda DVD does say "Although the RX-8 oil seals are compatible with synthetic oil, the long-term effects are unknown, therefore Mazda does not recommend using synthetic engine oil." What you somehow "left out" was the sentence preceding it: "Use a non-synthetic 5W-20 Oil with SL or ILSAC Approval on the container label." I'm sure it was merely an oversight on your part. Alas, this little sentence you "forgot" would appear to be the "documentation" you keep crying out for. Tell me—exactly which part of "Use a non-synthetic 5W-20 Oil" do you not understand? Oh, and please tell me—how is this not documentation?

You can type slow all you want. Maybe you should read slow too. The DVD is what I consider documentation.....no argument there.

What it isn't, is a categorical statement by Mazda NOT TO USE synthetic.

Hence, my use of the word CATEGORICAL.

cat·e·gor·i·cal ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kt-gôr-kl, -gr-) also cat·e·gor·ic (-k)
adj.
Being without exception or qualification; absolute.

"....Mazda does not recommend......." blah blah blah

Anyway, you use what you want. All I did was recommend people search if they want to know more on this debate.

I have pointed you in the right direction. The rest is up to you. Now for a message from our sponsors........
