Zoom44, I'm not questioning your authority, but I'm wondering why the OP shouldn't have posted on here until after it was all settled... was it just because he should have taken care of it right away? If so, I agree.

yeah he should have taken care of it right away and then posted about it. the longer he took to confront them the easier it would have been for them to say it was someone else. how he saw it happen and didnt say something right then i cant fathom

No, the guy said his daughter had hit other cars before in simple things like that since she is learning to drive - not mine.

2nd your post should have been - " so the neighbor kid hit my car and this is what happened when they finally fessed up and this is how much they are paying"

you should never have been posting before talking with them.

3rd the kid didn't learn anything expect dad will cover his ***. Dad should have made the kid look at what he had done talk to you personally and arranged to pay you-even if it was with money borrowed from dad he should have been the one to make sure you got paid.

you should offer the kid to come over and watch you buff the stuff out so he ACTUALLY learns SOMETHING from this.
I actually went out there once he moved 1 foot from my car brought out my phone and tried inspecting it with the light from my phone but did not see anything at the time, I also had 3 other people with me and my other car was in the middle of the street.

I went out after and inspected it but he was not around and it was late so I let it be til the next day which I then did go to his house but only his daughter was home.

I would be more than happy to teach the kid how to detail hes only a year or two younger than me anyway (I'm 18).

NO. Abrasive car polishes + people who don't know how to use them = bad idea.

He saw me and I didn't see any damage at the time so I went back to finish what I was doing but went out again to check it out.

I think it worked out well considering the guy was respectful about it and did not try to deny anything.

My friend is the one who will be doing it for me. He has been doing body work for something like 15+ years.

Glad it worked out for you - just goes to show that decent people live right next door to you if you get to know them.

It's nice you only made him pay $100. I know I wouldn't have done the same. His son hit my car, so he's paying for it to be fixing. Regardless of what my future plans are. Even if you wanted to be a nice guy, I would have gotten the repair estimate in wiriting, then discussed how much payment would be. Now watch your friend charge you $600 to fix it. Too late. You settled on 100 bucks....

Haha, I would have gone for more if I KNEW I would have to pay out of pocket for it, but I help him polish some cars once in a while when he needs me, he paints stuff and does body work for me. He already painted a hood and fender for me on my E34, and he already told me he was going to paint the front bumper for me a month ago.
