So the official officalness, is offical.
Is officialness even a word?
Anyways, it's official. I am now an RX8 owner.
Here's my tale...
So 2 Saturdays ago , I go and test drive the beauty that was to be mine. I get the all important wife buy off on the car, and all systems were go. Then on the following day, my wife turns to me and tells me that she doesn't want me to buy it because we JUST bought a house, we have too many cars, something something something... basically I wasn't being "fiscally responsible". No ****.
Her ultimatum came out. "Sell your GTI (still owed some cash on it) and you can have your RX8." Deal.
So that next day, Monday at 10:03 AM to be exact. I had sold my car. Yes, in just over 1 hour, I sold my GTI. I made a deal to a friend that he couldn't refuse, and he called his bank to get the loan.
In order for my plan of getting the car ASAP (that week), my plan had to go off like a well played orchestra. I had to get money from my ING checking account into my standard bank account (3-5 day transfer nightmare) for the deposit. Then I had to get 2 lending firms (his and mine) to actually talk about how the title transfer of my GTI was to take place. THEN I had to clean up my car, and load it up with all of the extraneous bells and whistles I have collected for it over the years. All throughout, I maintained solid communication with my Mazda dealer of choice (Flood Mazda baby!) to make sure that when I flipped the switch, someone would be at the dealership to work with me... late Friday night. All of this had to happen without driving my GTi so as to NOT put any more miles on it for my friend. So far, with enogh shuffling and manipulative phone calls, everything was perfectly aligned and my anxiety levels were through the roof.
Cut to this past friday. My bank (where the title for the GTi is) is open until 6. Flood Mazda is open until 8.
Originally, the plan was for me and my buddy to get out of work early, and head over to the bank around 4 to do the GTI deal and hand him the title. My wife could then pick me up and this would give us plenty of leisure time to stroll on up to the Mazda dealership and make the buying process as relaxing as possible. I must have forgotten that this was ME I was dealing with. My life is never that easy. So my friend calls me on Friday and explains that he can't get out of work until 5pm. I swallowed the panic in my voice and confirmed that this would be fine, knowing that it took him about 30 min to get to the bank from his work.
By some act of God, he made it there by about 5:40, and we did the payoff, sign off, hand off dance in the parking lot. I still have time to make it to the Mazda dealer who is about a 30 min drive from the bank. But my wife is late, and she's stuck in traffic...
After a few useless and nonsupporting phone calls to my wife, she arrived. Remember people. Screaming at someone does NOT make them drive faster if they are late. Trust me on that one.
So it's 7:10 and we roll into the dealership (screeching tires with me hanging out of the car wanting to jump into my new car). The deal went down better than I had imagined, and everyone lived happily ever after. The kicker is... I still don't have the car.
I pick it up this Friday. =)
Ok, the juicy details:
2007 RX8 - Galaxy Grey Mica - Touring
Appearance Package, rear wing, spoiler, etc etc...
I got the Rotary Accent package thrown in for free, along with the clear anti-chip car protector. Totaled that's $750 in parts.
All said and done I got the car at invoice, with all of their incentives, plus the 2 freebies listed above. I'm a happy man. Friday will be a good day.
Obviously, there will be pics but I'm sure you've all seen a stock RX8 before.
Thanks for reading folks. More on Friday!
