So someone keyed my LOANER car...
That's right...haven't even had the car 24 hours. They gave me a 2006 Lincoln LS, fully loaded with every option. Get to the hospital tonight and get out, take a look back and low and behold...about a foot long, it appears someone keyed the LS. Long and DEEP.
So my question is, what happens from here? Am I liable to pay for this? Would theirs/my insurance pay for this? Anyone have any idea? experiences?
I tell you, words can't describle the bad-luck-streak I have had ever since I bought this car. I'm to the point that if I were to witness someone doing anything at all to my car, I don't think i'd hold back from beating the ever-loving @#$% outta them.
I'm so sick of people by nature being so damn envious that they've gotta show hatred for anything nice someone owns. First it's my car with the stones, now it's paint work that i'll probably have to pay for.
How do you think the dealership will handle this?

dang, sorry to hear this happened.
i think it's a combo of the neighborhoods u visit and also bad luck. for example, a friend of mine bought a new silver carrera (a $95k car) and then ate at black angus in monrovia (not such a great area). when he came out he said someone had thrown an entire box of chilli fries on his rear grill, where the auto-spoiler is. (not easy to clean up.) needless to say, he was SO pissed. oh, and he also said that before that, he had just gotten the paint touched up because he got full-body keyed on both sides somewhere else. i think god was telling him something about buying that car... <lol> j/k. what can u do? <sigh> actually back in 98 when i bought my 3-series beamer, i also got keyed at the anaheim convention center. (i parked far away from other cars and deep in the lot too!) back then, bmw had just re-designed the 3, and there weren't very many on the road yet. so it was quite common for me to get to my car and see people checking it out. just never expected that some ******* decided to leave me a friggen $600 souvenir.
anyhow, sorry to hear about your streak of bad luck. hopefully the dealer won't hold u responsible for the vandalism to the loaner. and, bad luck eventually passes.

I can't believe the attitudes some people take toward other people's property! That is so immature. I don't know why people can't mind their own business and not worry so much about what other people have.

I'm really starting to despise people I don't know...

You’re going to be liable for the damage. If this was a rental car the agreement you signed will state what happens when the car gets damaged. But the loner program is for a car and just the car. Insurance & fuel is between you and the dealer / car rental company.

OK so I go to the dealership and frantically tell the story of what's happened here, and the girl at the service desk cracks a smile and starts laughing. She then manages to muster out between laughs "oh yea, i forgot to tell you that was already there...oh thats funny".
I was so relieved, but also immediately felt like jumping over the counter and punching her in the face. I'm sure that the irony of me mistaking previous damage as mine was slightly funny to them, but to me...it wasn't a joking matter. She was juggling an easy $5-800 bill around like it was forgetting to put the toilet seat down.
To put an optimistic twist to it though, it turned out for the better, and it didn't even happen when I had the car...they guy before me did. Haven't been that relieved in a LOOOONG time.

Didnt you take a quick walk around the rental before you hopped in it? That or you got the rental at night? Hehe either way atleast it wasnt your fault and they were honest. Though me personaly I would of uttered somewhat under my breath "Bitch..!" after she told me it was already there.

i had a rental that i rented when i was waiting to get my 8 but it took about a week so i rented a 2004 corolla Black and i scratched the driver side rear passenger door moulding like over a foot long and some of the paint came off, i used some touch up and returned the car overnight parked it in shade so the sun is not shinning on it the next day and never got a call about anything WHEEEEEEEW!!!!!

i took a trip to france last summer that included a rental Citroen 3 in Nice. One night i opened the door and slammed it into a pole in the parking lot *whoops* and left a nice dent. i tried to pound it out from the back with some blunt objects with no success. so i just dropped it off (our flight out was very early) before they opened and never heard from them again. i was scared the french would find me in the states and raise hell.
btw, driving along the coast of Nice to Monaco and to Italy is an experience we all should have (minus the INSANE local drivers). Next time I'll have to do it in my rx-8 because the Citroen was pretty whack.

Ah rental cars! I was in an accident with my 04 Jetta GLI about a year and a half ago. Farmers insurance sends me to a body shop chain...which two weeks later goes out of business! NO ****, my car goes into the court system, and Farmers gets me a rental, while the court decides who the parts on my car belong to. I walk into Hertz and the guys says, "Good news, man. We've upgraded you to a...(are you ready?) KIA!" I was like, "What the hell was the first car? A scooter? A two seater bike and a guy named Bob who's gonna pedal me everywhere?!?"
Turns out to be an Amanti...and the repairs on my car take SIX MONTHS! Now, as you can imagine I was pissed so every chance I got I jumped, drifted, slide, slammed and abused that poor Kia. It had 160 miles when I got it...I gave it back with well over 20k. And the insurance had to pay it.
Despite a valiant effort, my poor GLI was never the same. Which is why 6 months later I traded it in on a RX8.
But since we were trading stories about rentals...I thought I'd throw in.

Rental companies really get dumped on beacause they absorb everybody's problems; insurance, dealership, body shop, irate customers. They can usually switch you out into something else if your not a complete ***. Damaging a rental/loaner - like driving your own car, file a claim. Don't ever buy the rental insurance, waste of freakin money.
