So will the RX-8 feel fast below 5K Rpm?

You're right.. I withdraw the fuel economy comment. Same about the displacement... I'm sleeping on the job again.
There is a list of banned materials. I believe the spirit is to keep cost down (har!). IIRC only ferrous metals can be used for the crankshaft and cams so I would assume that would apply to various portions of the rotary. Who knows though, the rules are very piston-centric and it would take several seasons to flesh out a fair set of requirements for a competitive rotary. I'm not sold on the rotary having higher theoretical maximums though. That said, I have absolutely no clue what those maximums are for either design. Suffice it to say that there are challenges to overcome in either design..

meh, don't worry about it... i can't count the number of times i've had to stuff my leg down my throat up to the knee...
i dont' think that F1'll ever allow rotaries in, because of the "cost reduction" thing... :D
BUT!! i DID hear something about Pook dereggin' CART, to allow non-piston (duh, rotary) engines in too... was that it?? it was a long, long time ago, i think during the Denver GP broadcast on SPEED, and you know how it is, i'm trying to remember this soundbite... and i don't follow CART mostly 'cause the racing (IMH, and jaded, O) just isn't really worth it... i'd much rather watch touring cars...
anyhoo, does someone know about this?? i do remember that he also wanted to go to gasoline (they're using alcohol right now, yes??) and a 3.0L v10 setup, just like F1 ... "jeez Chris, that's such a surprise"... i really don't like that man too much... i really hope Bernie buys that contolling interest and sets it straight (NO MORE OVALS...)
