Sohn adapter
So what does the oil in the oil pan do once the sohn adapter is installed? Just sit there? Is it still necessary to top up at every other fill up? And change every 2,500-3,000 miles?

Points to think about:
A) You top up the oil periodically on a stock RX-8 because the OMP system is injecting oil from the oil pan into the engine, burning it off.
B) The SOHN adapter blocks this source and instead lets you feed oil from a clean 2-stroke source instead.
So if you ponder those two points, you will see that the oil in the oil pan is no longer being injected where it will be burnt, so you won't have oil consumption showing up on the dipstick (unless something else is very wrong).
You still need the 4-stroke in the oil pan for the e-shaft bearings. And no, the oil change interval doesn't change. If anything it becomes more frequent, since you aren't 'refreshing' the oil any with top ups.

The oil the the case will still be necessary. Now there are SEVERAL threads/ arguements going on currently and in the past about how often the oil should be changed once the Sohn Adapter is installed. BUT, you will NOT need to top it off. The reason you top your oil off is because our motors use oil to lubricate the seals. They due this via the oil nozzles as well as the entire OMP system. Since your adding the Sohn Adapter it blocks the dirty oil coming to the OMP system and instead uses the clean two stroke. That is why you need a tank for the adapter to draw the clean two stroke from. I am going to agree with 9k here and say that you should seriously read through the new members forum. Expand your knowledge on the 8 itself as well as the entire OMP system. I will tell you that the Sohn Adapter is a good idea simply because it uses clean two stroke oil rather than your used conventional oil. As for the duration you asked about between oil changes. Keep in mind where you live first off. The ambient temp outside matters when you run these cars. Simply because a hotter climate means your engine is using hotter air, etc.... You get the point. As well as our motors also run at a higher temp than usual piston engines. So really you need to read up and make your own educated decision.
