Because no one would see it coming.

The Yaris community. I'm sorry, no disrepect (I like little cars), but that made me laugh. Seriously, though, at least this makes more sense than the people who want to drop an ordinary engine into an 8.

haha yeah. i posted in that thread to clear up a few misconceptions

it would be interesting for sure. even if they totally rice it out, it'll still be a complete sleeper. if a yaris wanted to drag me, i'd go all for it. if the yaris had the same engine i do + turbo, i'd be in for some embarrassment.

I am more shocked there are forums for Yaris owners. Doesn't surprise me since I see them everywhere but still.

On the topic of them, I saw one two weeks ago with a cf hood. The hood being so small, I at first thought someone just painted a black line across the front. Sorry no pics, but believe me, it was TERRILBE!

There are fora for everything, and some people will customize any car. While hunting for info on swapping the radio in my wife's Camry, I found a board with DIY's on Camry mods. I had no idea that anyone thought Camrys were cool enough to mod.

Back to the original topic. Anyone here old enough to remember when drag racers would stuff V8s into Ford Anglias? The Anglia was kind of the Yaris of its day. Makes me happy to see that the same spirit still lives today.

Why does no one understand our cars?!? Everyone seems to call the engine **** bc they compare it to a larger displacement FI engine that has maybe what 20-40 more hp. Do they not realize how how much more power we make FI with relatively low boost?!? I just don't understand.

It will sure be something to see if he does it.

I'm really intrigued to see that pulled off. Looks like the guy is actually serious about the attempt and if he pulled it off, it'd be a heck of a monster.

Though I have to laugh at the first dyno post. Where the hell did he get that first graph? From a dead Renesis with no compression, or did he just go searching for the lowest numbered graph he could find?

Hey, if it's not putting down big numbers stock, it's a worthless engine!!! </ignorant>

Seriously, now that I've been circulating around some other automotive forums, I've been noticing that everyone knows the "cons" of the rotary engine (which is usually just torque), and NOBODY knows the pros. Seriously, doesn't anyone realize that having a tiny, lightweight, relatively powerful engine just might just be beneficial?

/me wishes that Americans understood the importance of handling...

I hear you Rhawb our engine is very tiny/powerful...I mean you can tell it is by looking in the engine bay, but you don't really realize it until you see one free of the car.

I just got a housing and rotor for a display and it easily fits in a regular backpack!

My roommates first words when he saw it was "That produces 200 some hp" and my dad always jokingly says my car has a lawnmower engine.

The guy who wants to drop an rx-8 engine and tranny into a yaris

Hey guys, I'm the guy...

I'm glad to see that most of you are pretty pumped about seeing the end result, as am I. There are always going to be doubters, and first off, I own an 05 RX-8 and LOVE IT.

The whole thing started off as a joke. I sold my 07 WRX TR, because I deliver pizza and the gas mileage SUCKED. My friend owns an xB, haha, and he was laughing about my yaris purchase. I went home and was thinking about something ridiculous to drop in, and it came to me.

In all reality, the car weighs 2250lbs, and can get down to 1800lbs after weight dropping. I'm not even planning on running boost. The car should FLY. I just want to destroy people on the track and when all the toyota guys come over to check what swap i've done, they'll see the 13B, haha.

I hope, when the time comes to start building, I can rely on the rx-8 community for some help.

Thanks guys

it should be feasible.... it will cost $ though... and the same reason i never did the Suzuki 1.6 GT swift swap in my geo metro, is because after the swap.. it would still be a metro. .... 6k later just didn't sound like a compromising cost offset.

so custom mounts, custom driveshaft, unless there is a AWD yaris overseas or in japan... then need the rear pumpkin, and axles... oh yeah midust well do the 6speed tranny mount..... man after that the drive shaft may be only 3feet long

so yeah, if your down for fabricating.. then getting in an accident (Jinx) 2 weeks later and having your warranty company say... yeah we'll put the EOM motor in... i bow to the yaris owner to do this. bring it!

forgot ecu, and wire harness... and splice off the existing ecu so factory parts will still work.. you'ld have to cross link the relating wires for engine management to the rx8 ecu, then factory wires to the old ecu.... good luck with the obd nightmares.. midust well get a data logger, and unplug the CEL light

merrick, just make sure the outside still looks stock. If it looks modified, the shock wont be the same.

I'd love to see the look on peoples faces, haha

If you check out the thread on yarisworld (link above somewhere) you'll see that a lot of that has been accounted for. I'm sure problems will arise, but I am so pumped about the project, it's gonna be worth the money and time, and I kinda like the way my yaris looks, haha.

Also, we're not gonna bother with a new yaris, we're getting a totaled one, might take some time to find, but it'll cut the cost about 12000$

ooooooh yes, it'll remain "stock" in appearance.

sleeper ftw! We're gonna try very hard to keep it street legal and to get the ABS and traction control to work. (Traction control might get dropped due to weight concerns, etc...)

edit: we might even keep the stock yaris shifter **** and interior/console, if possible, haha.
