Some jerk tries to race me

So I'm driving behind a white SVT Mustang, and I get into the other lane because I had to make a left hand turn at the intersection coming up. Anyways, I pass him, just going a normal speed, then he speeds up to me and starts the acceleration slowing down, acceleration slowing down thing to signal a race. Ok, I'm not an idiot. One the 8 is not a straight line car, and two it was on a public road. So i just stare at him and then he just speeds up and passes me. What a assanine jerk.

My older brother had a saying growing up:

Ignore the ignorant.

It works wonders. (good advice for me to heed after my last ticket, which I got racing some idiot 4 years ago...)

Some of these people think they are in suburban assault vehicles and it makes me laugh...literally.

The best way to get back is to have your passenger video tape them (mobile phones can do it) and show the vision to the police.

Its very solid evidence and when the police turn up on their doorstep, it puts the fear of god into them. Trust me, it works....

^^huh? highly undoubtly cops will take a videotape of roadrager's and people who initiate street races as top of the list of criminals to bust...

but it is worth a laugh to put on you tube for public humiliation.

EX: i saw a webpage once dedicated to vehicles that had been 'busted' do to youtube videos of racing etc. these vehicles were impounded and 'test-crashed' on video and then re-posted on you tube.....
kinda an ominous warning of what happens to your car in AU if you **** up too much, and a good way to shut down the popularity increase, do to you tube, of such activities

This happens a lot to RX 8s because everybody knows they are kinda slow to accelerate. The absolute worse are SRT 4 drivers. Here's a true story.

I was driving to work one day on a busy two lane highway and passed a red SRT 4 going the opposite direction. Mind you, I work for a police agency and was in uniform, but my dark tinted windows obviously obscured his vision because what he did was absolutely ridiculous.

He made a U-turn and proceeded to drive recklessly through traffic, passing with little regard to safety only to catch up with me. Afterwards, he tailgated me relentlessly for about 2 miles until I reached a red light. I put my car in neutral, set the parking brake and exited my vehicle. As I approached this moron, I could see he was wearing a city maintenance worker's uniform, yea, the same city I work for! I told him to pull into a convenience store parking lot and wait for me.

After a two-three minute tongue lashing about safe driving and such, I decided to let him go, besides, I didn't want to be late for work. Turns out, he drives heavy equipment (dump trucks) and a citation for any moving violation would cause some issues with his supervisor. He apologized for the matter and swore he would never do it again.

About 3 weeks later, while on patrol, I get a call about a possible accident involving a "red sports car" that had left the roadway and crashed into a deep embankment. Well, I guess you can finish this story. Same car, same driver was attempting to turn into a car wash when the gear shift **** came off in his hand. Driver then fumbled around with knobless shifter, lost control and crashed into a deep ditch. He wasn't injured, but the car was totaled!

Excellent point Paul. Every week I am hard pressed NOT to find another bone-head running others off the road. I have seen first hand the results of a surveillance video at a convenience store where rev heads were terrorising customers in the car park.

That was their first and final mistake with this shop owner.

When they were dragged into the station with the confronting video evidence they were toast, and they absolutely **** themselves.

Here we had this quaint elderly woman who had the courage and coolness "under fire" , at the stroke of the hour she pressed the record button and had them cold.

You had to see her to believe it. A ***** 5 star rating....a true crime fighter!!!!

Most people just shy away and put up with it, but when you see the elderly stand up to these miscreants in court, and then see them lose their licences its truly inspiring.

Other than the taser, video evidence is one of the best medicines one can apply......

The best part was when his parents showed up....got even better when his girlfriends parents showed up....what an awesome part if that night. Figure the roads are a little safer now.
Awesome............Sneaky(and you really weren't)..........but awesome.

I don't know if I've gotten used to people trying to race, or if it's calmed down. I had the car when it first came out, so there were a lot of morons who wanted some of the action.

The worse type is the one who not only wants to race, but starts to swerve around the lanes and honking the horn when you ignore them.

I was on a Mustang website and this guy was talking about how a RX-8 passed him at normal speeds in the turning lane, he then proceeded to KILL him.

Just joking.

When that happens to me, I just ignore them, I dont even look their way!!

just had some kid in a Cobalt SS come after me ... in heavy traffic for crying out loud!!! I guess he figured that he wanted to test his metal against my 8 since he heard the exhaust note.

Why can't people just go to the track. No traffic, no interruptions, prep work, and ALL of the road to work with. Besides, seeing which car can accelerate quicker is kind of boring and doesn't really say much about the car as a whole. Or the driver for that matter.

... when I say track, I MEAN ROAD COURSE. A DRAG STRIP IS NOT A TRACK.

I noticed that some people on this forum should be driving a MINIVAN instead of a "sport" car. Why are you people crying and complaining about??
Some guy wants to prove to himself that his car is faster then yours? go and race him! or get on the right lane and let him pass. Its your choice. Its really that simple!

The worst are these "people" that try to education others in how not to "speed" or race others. Yet, these are the same guys who have RX-8's!! Are these people trying to say they drive below the speed limit? In that case, why do they need 232HP for? 50Hp would be enough to go the speed "limit"

Mike,

I NEVER drive the speed limit(I'm usually 5-10 mph over) except in a residential neighborhood.
As for racing.............on a public street with traffic and no controls................is just plain STUPID...........End of Story.

+2, Racing is dangerous. Though it is stupid when I am redlining, it does look like I am racing... :-(

I have 232HP because I actually do race. People who race on the streets are ******* morons. The need to beat someone else on the street will cause you to lose focus, and that's how accidents happen.

Take it to the track or your local autocross. Street acceleration isn't my idea of fun.

And yes, I do mean circuit track. Not a drag strip.

Unless you have a 26B.

EDIT: Oh, did I mention? I like instigating races and letting them beat me. Forces them to waste gas and rubber. Man, I can't count how many times I've pulled up beside a Mustang and matched speeds, before the Mustang guns it and "kills" me. I proceed to laugh at them for the wear and tear to their tranny, wasted gas, and wasted rubber.

I get this all the time. I'll be heading home from work on the Long Island Expressway, and every idiot with a WRX has to pull up alongside, and then accelerate hard enough to get on the rear bumper of the car ahead of him. It always reminds me of Ike, another one with the curse of "performance anxiety" who always has something to prove. They prove it, all right.

The only "performance" anxiety Ike might have can be cured by patronizing the companies which have late-night info-mercials.
