Make it a condition of the sale. Make them clean them then paint them before you sign on the line.

Rust is very common in that area of the 8.

Very common. Mine had it brand new when I took delivery.

Read this thread . Some dealers are still doing it under warranty. Some are not. It's an issue many here have dealt with.

Go to that thread tigerlee linked and print off the response from Snap-On. Take that in to the dealer and tell them to paint your hubs. Should be no questions asked...

These are the rotary accents. One for front and rear. You can usually find some good deals in the Vendor Section here. Or in the Parts For Sale/Trade Section.

When you do eventually buy one, just call Mazda North America. Tell them your vehicle info and have them put you on their mailing list. Better yet, stick around here! The info on the recall's was posted here long before anyone started getting their letters.

I think there is also a postcard in the owners manual you can fill out and send in to Mazda with the new owner information.

Yeah, they should look like this (if you do it yourself, that is).

I don't think we can answer that question in a meaningful way. Depends on the competence and experience of the dealers employees, whether they get to the job immediately, depends on whether they have a mechanic do it or a body man, depends on whether they sub the job to a non-dealership body shop, depends on how good they do the job, and so on. You get my point. All you can do is ask for an estimate, but my guess is it will be several hours if not a day when you consider scheduling this task in with the other work on your car and on others in the shop.

It took me the better part of a day since I cleaned the rust off with a wire wheel and carefully applied 3 coats that required a drying time between coats.

Thanks DOM. I used G2 Brake Caliper Paint kits--one kit for the rotors and one kit for the calipers. You could probably get by with one kit for both, but the paint has a time constraint after you mix the components together, so you will be rushed if you try to do both at the same time. The key, as in any painting job, is to clean up everything completely using a wire brush and the provided brake cleaner spray. BTW, this is a brush-on process.

Best price I found on-line was at www.hubcapsplus.com (believe it or not) because the shipping was free. You might be able to get it locally. Their price was $34.99 per kit. Not cheap, but it has held up very well.
