I lived in a reasonable building once that had an incredible amount of local property crime. My car was broken into on 7 separate occasions over two years.
Eventually I gave up. I never left anything inside. I left it unlocked with the glove box open, and a sign on the window saying "go ahead and look around - it's open". Never had a problem after that.
One time the thieves emptied the glove box on me, taking my users manual and registration. They mailed me back my registration. Apparently they didn't want to inconvenience me!

am really sorry to hear about this. but, WTF did u leave all that electronic equipment in plain view on the dashboard?! c'mon, we all know that you're never, EVER supposed to leave anything worth taking in plain view inside your car- regardless where u are parked. (unless it's inside your own, private parking garage in your own house.)
also, do u have an alarm on your 8, and didn't it go off? maybe after this, u'll be more careful in the future.

I need to install this under the drivers side door and rig it to activate once the alarm goes off

This would also involve a second fuel line.. but thats probably doable

That sucks. I know how that feels (though not with my RX8). I used to live in an apartment complex, and my Neon was broken into at least three times. That stopped when my husband caught one, and slammed his head up against a brick wall.
I'm curious about the door too. What did they do to it?

Sorry to hear about that. I have had 2nd thoughts about my $2,000 factory nav system. I always told myself - at least no one can smash-and-grab that like they could an aftermarket system, but I never heard of anyone's portable nav system being stolen until now.
That's some expensive equipment. Can you get it all reimbursed through your insurance company? Pics of your installed equipment would probably help. Can you hassle the school into paying your deductible (probably not if they have 'park at your own risk' signs, but worth mentioning to them that their security sucks).

I wonder if they'd be able to track that Nav system via its serial number or something. After all, it's MADE to tell you where you're positioned on the globe, I'm sure the authorities can just get the company to give up that reading. Have you looked into that?

I am so sorry to hear that . Did you have an alarm on the car?
Here in Cyprus were I live it is considered to have one of the lowest crime levels in Europe. Couple of years ago someone broke into my other car and stole my just fitted MP3 player. Ever since both my cars have and sophisticated alarm with a pager. No probs so far.

But really, apparently in California any mods of any kinds to a car are illegal. What a stupid, stupid law.

That's what I thought when I first read the title........then I read the rest of the post and realized english is not his first language.

English is not my first language either, but I think he's just typing fast and not really trying to be grammatically correct... notice the "wut"..etc.
Or I could just blame the education here in California. :P
Sucks for that to happen, but that's why I leave everything in my car bone stock.
