I've had a few problems @33k miles but mainly because the previous owner of my baby didnt take care of her
If used definatly do a carfax and be **** about everything I wasnt and I'm trying to make up for it by soaking in every bit of info on this site hehe. If new then you shouldnt have much if any problems.
Also by to much what do you mean? Do you mean trouble spending time in your garage or in the local shop, or by the amount of money you'll be putting out. Most of the problems reported here on the forums are usualy covered by warrenty so thankfully cost has been nil. Only known issue is the oil coiler being right out in the open (which reminds me I need to order some screens). Just look at it like "Do I want to own and take care of a car, or own a car and beat it up". I chose to take care of a car and well it feels nice. hehe.

taking it to the shop isnt a problem its the $$$ i will spend AT the shop...i used to try and drive the jetta like a lambo so chances are i will do the same im not going to take it to anytracks or anything but there will be times when ill be on the highways late nights and i see some competition and make it work a bit...the thing that worries me is im hearing things about the 8 messing up because of the heat outside and whatnot...these are the problems i dont need but if it can run smooth the first 40 or 50k miles or so its definitely something i would buy

You should be able to find "brand new" 05's on lots if you expand your search. There are dealers out there with a few hidden away. Base 05 with 0 miles on it would run you 20k, maybe less. The 8's aren't jumping off lots, so why buy one w/someone else's miles and potentially poor care?
For your needs - don't really know if it's a good idea. Look around the forum for answers. Any car can have problems causing you to "be in some sh*t".
whoa . . . this made me dizzy . . .

Make sure you have a good warrenty! Make sure you have good, comprehensive insurance - recommend Allstate.
Beware of used 8s with low milage as nobody with a good one will let her go unless they have to-
Make sure you have a good reliable dealer who will follow up on the warrenty - check out the thread on good/bad ones.
Try it before you buy it - make sure it fits you!
If it's only about night action, a Corvette's OK, but they handle like boats - you might want to add some mods to your 8 for more torque and take it to a track!
But If you want to enjoy the drive, have speed when there's need, be able to hear your music system over your engine, bring some friends, and own a car you can love - than wait for a good 8!

Hey Law,
I just picked up my 8 and am in a similar situation. I use it as a daily driver, to take my friends to the bar, to move **** in and out of my apartment, to visit my friends along the east coast, to sit in Rt 1 traffic to get a cheeseburger (though I never eat in the car...now). I dont have a lot of miles on mine, but I read most posts on this forum, and it doesnt sound like you should have much concern. Since I have bought this car, it is the first ncie car that I have owned, thus I want to take care of it, so I dont mind the "maintenance" issues that you may have read about, like changing the oil, topping off, getting winter tires, cleaning it obsessively, etc. My biggest problem is finding some place to red-line the car while I am driving in New Jersey (redlining = a convenient mix of maintenance and joy). I say go for it.
By the way, I got a "new" (read < 100 miles) 05 6MT GT with spare tire off a dealer lot. 2005 Base models in the Philly area were priced at around $21k on the first visit to the dealer. I think its worth buying a "new" 2005 from a dealer for the piece of mind and new car feeling.

scratch that....i just looked online on how a lease really works...and even though i would like to customize my black on black RX8 with all black 19 inch rims/w chrome lining...i think leasing would be better for me...just the fact i have the abilty to drive it is enough...so i think ill do that...an 05 RX 8 lease for 2 years would allow me to save so i can buy my own when my lease is up...i just cant wait...its gonna be a huge difference between my old 100 HP 4 cylinder jetta
