Somethings wrong with my gas gauge thing

It always takes a while to get to the real level of gas i have in now. I recently changed my starter motor and since then this is what happens.

Last night i had 1/5 left. Then when i got in today my orange light came on. So im thinking oh **** then i drive 10 minutes and im back up to 1/5th.

Anyone know why this is happening now?

But you didn't answer it. The floats can get stuck, and debris from the fuel, plus corrosion from the ethanol in the fuel can eat away at fuel system components. This can cause plastic and other elements from the system to keep the float sensor from functioning properly. It can also eat away at the sensor components. And like he said you might be parked on an angle.

A. Mair, I had this same issue years ago and they actually had to replace my whole tank. It got to the point where it would read a 1/4 or 1/2 tank and I would run out of gas.

mine gets stuck on the first notch right under the half line, sometimes if im on the highway i can drive for 75 miles with out it moving, but than it will start going again.

it will occasionally read (x) amount, and when i get in a drive at a later time it will have dropped a notch or two immidiately.

unfortunatly you have to replace the entire tank as a unit, 9k would be able to give you an appropriate cost.

It didn't cost me anything, it was under warranty but www.mazmart.com, www.partsgroup.com, or www.revvinsevens.com has them from time to to time for around $400.00 I think. If I recall correctly it had something to do with the pump that transfers gas from one side to the other or a component of that system. Not sure why the whole tank had to be replaced though.
